Often the best moments in World Cups come from the unheralded player, the minnow or underdog who surprises the field and upsets the odds. This year’s Rugby World Cup has been no different, and the tries from these small fish have been particularly special.

Japan were valiant against France, Romania almost defeated Scotland and Tonga were spirited against the All Blacks.

Canada then went on to upset Tonga in a battle of the smaller nations and some great tries were scored.

Four years ago, arguably the try of the tournament came when USA flyer Takudzwa Ngwenya showed up Bryan Habana in a wonderful try against the Springboks.

Did Rugby World Cup 2011’s try of the tournament happen yesterday?

One of the smallest countries in the rugby universe at this competition are Namibia. Formerly part of South Africa, the plucky Namibians were smashed 49-12 by Samoan.

It was an impressive display from the Pacific Islanders, but it was a moment from the unheralded Namibians in the 63 minute that caught my eye.

Completely against the run of play, winger Llewellyn Winkler pulled off a brilliant move.

A deft chip off the back of a ruck in his own half with little room to spare, a quick regather and nice pass to his centre Danie van Wyk who raced 35 metres to score.

A cheeky, audacious piece of rugby.

Namibia might have been outplayed entirely in this match, but they did score the try of the game through the stunning talent displayed by the back from Windhoek.

What’s your view, is it the try of the RWC so far?

(The try from Namibia is mixed in this video of the best tries from yesterday – watch it from the 2.21 mark)
