NRL has nothing to fear from GWS

In 2012, the GWS Giants will make it’s long awaited arrival, headed by Kevin Sheedy, with Israel Folau as their marquee draw card. It will be an interesting time ahead for the AFL as they venture into uncharted territories.

On the other hand, the NRL has established four western Sydney clubs with decades of history and supporters, yet the media has fueled an unneeded paranoia against the AFL with the ‘code war’ in Western Sydney.

The AFL can go it’s own way in NSW and establish itself as a niche sport there. The very thought of it ‘overtaking’ rugby league in any way, shape or form is laughable.

It is like saying the Melbourne Storm will become the number one team in Victoria. You’ve got to be dreaming.

It’s best for the NRL administration to focus on their game only and not play to the media games on ‘code wars’ and other nonsense as it’s giving the AFL free press, which they gladly take on any given day.

Both codes do have bright futures ahead, if only they stop getting in each other’s way.
