UFC 156 was a great card and provided viewers with some great fights.

Jose Aldo obviously retained his title against Edgar but the fight was and wasn’t what I expected.

Aldo attacked the front leg with kicks and Edgar countered with shots.

Aldo sprawled and opened up with punches, then Edgar came forward.

I expected Edgar to breakdown Aldo’s range sooner and make a more entertaining fight. Aldo will defend his title again but Edgar has now lost three in a row and will have to work his way back into the mix.

Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva shocked the MMA world with his KO result against Overeem. While I did think he would win, Silva has proved his class and made people question Overeem’s calibre of past opponents.

This is no small task. Silva fought a very smart fight and should be considered a top-five fighter in the division now.

Sure, Overeem gassed, but he is still a tough fight.

Rashad Evans recorded his first non-title loss in the UFC and Dana questioned his hunger after the fight. It was an ugly fight.

Basically, the Blackzilians had a bad night.

Dana versus Couture: It happened again. Randy squirmed his way out of a UFC contract to end up at a competitor, this time Bellator FC.

Randy is rumoured to be taking a coaching role on a Spike TV reality fighting show contest similar to the UFC’s own Ultimate Fighter.

Dana remained calm at first but has now called Randy every name under the sun and has said he’s happy to see Randy leave the UFC. Interestingly Randy’s son, Ryan, is going to stay at the UFC.

It will be interesting to see if Ryan is dropped in the Shark Cage to pay for the sins of his father. I hope not.

Dana also broke the news that Anthony Peitis is requesting a title fight with Aldo. It makes sense if Peitis can make the cut.

He is stuck behind Gilbert Melendez who is suffering contract issues between Bellator and the UFC, with apparently no end in sight.

If he can make the drop, it would be a spectacular fight.

Dana denied that Vitor Belefort returned a positive test after fighting Bisping. At the time of submission, nobody on the fightcard has been qualified as positive.

Yet.
