Waratahs coach Michael Cheika has named both captain Dave Dennis and outside-centre Rob Horne in his starting XV to face the British and Irish Lions at Allianz Stadium tomorrow night.

Dennis and Horne were yesterday released from the Wallabies camp in Caloundra by coach Robbie Deans to line up for the Waratahs.

Along with Drew Mitchell and Paddy Ryan, the pair are the only members of the starting line-up with international experience, with 11 others missing through either Wallabies duty or injury.

Cheika praised the ARU for releasing Dennis and Horne for the game, and said the two would provide a significant boost to his young side.

“We’ve been all about trying to develop a winning attitude, no matter who’s in the jersey. The odds are against us, massively, but we’ll try and buck them,” he said.

“As long as there’s a chance, we’ll take it. Anything in red that moves, we’ll have a crack at. We need to play our game and do it as best we can and see what happens.”

NSW have named three Shute Shield players on an extended bench, including uncapped 21-year-old prop Sam Talakai.

Tomorrow night will mark the 21st occasion NSW have met the British and Irish Lions, with the first meeting between the two taking place 125 years ago in 1888, where the Lions won 18-2.

NSW have tasted victory on four occasions and drawing on another, with the last win being an 18-14 result at the Sydney Sports Ground in 1959.
