The night started off with a brilliant rendition of ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’.

Luis Suarez was nowhere to be seen in the starting line-up but was named as a substitute.

As expected, Steven Gerrard made an instant impact with his precise passing and beautiful long balls.

The first 20 minutes were quite uneventful and neither team had many chances. The first great chance Liverpool had was in the 31st minute, when a through ball found Stevie G, who neatly curved the ball past the helpless keeper.

After another uneventful 10 minutes, both teams walked off the pitch happy.

The second half started off well for the Melbourne Victory. Their one big chance of the game fell to Socceroo Connor Pain ,who took a swerving shot at the goals but was well saved by Liverpool’s Aussie keeper Brad Jones.

Brendan Rodgers then decided it was time for Stevie Gerrard to come off and so replaced him with Lucas.

Luis Suarez was also substituted on in the 72nd minute for striker Fabio Borini.

20 more minutes passed until an MCG crow full of 95,000 people saw Luis Suarez weave a bit of magic, dribbling past two defenders before smashing in a pass to Iago Aspas, who easily tapped the ball into the back of the net to cap off a great night.
