David Warner will be an Australian cricket legend. He is a unique player, so different from nearly every other player in the history of Test cricket.

He is an aggressive opening batsman with the ability to win the game for Australia in the first session or two of a Test match.

However, For David Warner to succeed and become a legend for Australia in the Test arena, he will first have to get rid of all the negative distractions that have stopped him from being at his best in recent times.

For a young man on a couple of million dollars a year, it would be pretty easy to let all this go to his head, however that in the long run will absolutely ruin him, so he needs to get all the negativity out of his head very quickly.

His recent form and off-field incidents show just how much it’s affecting him.

He has had a twitter rampage at a journalist while in India, punched Joe Root at the bar, which got him sent to South Africa to play for Australia A instead of playing in the Ashes, and even in South Africa had an altercation with the wicketkeeper of the South Africa A team.

During all these events his form was bad, he couldn’t score runs, and even without the Joe Root bar incident seemed to be on his last chance in the Australian side, before he got dropped.

However, once he put all this behind him, he came out and made a massive score in South Africa, which put him on the next plane back to England.

Back in England he has now played two Test matches, and while not making a big century, has made two reasonable innings out of four – trying to set up the win in the second innings of the third Test match and top scoring with 71 in the second innings of the fourth Test match.

His two innings of decent scores have been hit at strike rates of 62.83 and 71.92. This shows when David Warner gets going and makes a start, he has a very good scoring rate and can put the best bowlers in the world onto the back foot.

There have been aggressive batsman in the Test arena before, people like Adam Gilchrist, Brendon Mccullum and even Kevin Petersen, however the thing that makes David Warner unique compared to these guys is he is an opening batsman, who can change the course of a game from the outset.

He has worked on his defence to the point he is at a Test match level, and only being very young, has so many years left to make a name for himself in the Test arena.

He also has, at times, shown some leadership skills and is a chance to become Australia’s next captain, or at least he has to be in the calculations.

All of this, the making of David Warner, will only be possible if he can get the negativity out of his life.

If he can do that, then the sky is the limit for David Warner.
