Tonight will be the first home match of the Phil Moss era on the Central Coast, as Melbourne Victory travels to Gosford for the first time since the 2012/13 semi final. Join us for live scores and commentary from 7.30pm AEDT.
Both teams are being managed by new coaches, with three A-League wins notched on the collective belt of Victory’s Kevin Muscat and the Mariners’ Phil Moss.
In the 2012/13 semi final, just over 10,000 fans came out to watch the Mariners earn a place in their fourth grand final with a 1-0 victory over the Victory, thanks to a Danny McBreen goal just before halftime.
The previous match-up, in Round 22 of the regular season, was a soggy affair which the Mariners dominated 6-2.
Melbourne will attempt to break a four-game losing streak to the Mariners and are in a good spot to do so.
They’ve got the second-highest scorer in the league (James Troisi, 5) and won a statement game against Adelaide last week, holding a 3-0 win despite being down to ten men for the entire second half. Keeper Nathan Coe is also in form, tied for first in the league with three clean sheets.
Last round the Mariners got a first win for Phil Moss, who took over after Graham Arnold departed suddenly for J-League outfit Vegalta Sendai.
An injury-time goal to Mitchell Duke coupled with an earlier strike from McGlinchey put them up 2-1.
The win took the Mariners to sixth place with nine points, with the caveat of having played one less game than most of the league.
Victory are sitting at fifth on the table with 11 points, and have managed to score the second-most goals in the league. Kevin Muscat, who was promoted after Ange Postecoglou secured the Socceroos job, has won two of five games in charge.
