In a titanic clash of two in form teams the San Francisco 49ers travel North to take on bitter NFC West foes the Seattle Seahawks in the 2014 NFC Championship game. Join us for live scores and commentary from 10.30am AEDT

For a long time now it has been predicted that the road to Super Bowl XLVIII will go through Seattle’s deafening Century Link, and this is indeed the scenario facing Jim Harbaugh’s San Francisco side today.

Despite never having met in a playoff match there is little love lost between the 49ers and Seahawks, and with just a single victory separating them in the competitive NFC West division this year the rivalry has only intensified.

Aside from mutual dislike, the two sides share a number of other similarities.

Both Seattle and San Francisco are helmed by dynamic young quarterbacks, with Russell Wilson and Colin Kaepernick pulling the strings respectively.

Whilst Wilson may have been statistically sluggish at times and Kaepernick may have started the season slowly, both QBs possess the raw athleticism and sheer determination to carry their side to victory.

In addition to this both teams offensively favour powerful running games, and the fight for the hard yards between the visiting Frank Gore and hometown hero Marshawn ‘Beastmode’ Lynch will be pivotal in deciding the game’s outcome.

If there is an area where the 49ers may hold a slight edge going into this match it is their formidable pass offence, which has been boosted as of late with the return of wide receiver Michael Crabtree and fine form of big game specialist Anquan Boldin.

However, with Seattle’s raucous home crowd capable of becoming the side’s fables ‘Twelfth Man’, any win by the 49ers will rely on them bucking their recent run of outs inside football’s noisiest stadium.

Whilst they go into this match as favourites and having only lost three games all season, I’m tipping against the Seahawks and predicting San Francisco to break their hoodoo and make it to their second Super Bowl in a row with a narrow victory.
