As for Samoa, they didn’t punch above their weight, they punched England. It didn’t knock the men from the northern hemisphere out but it did remind people that there are four nations competing, not three. They showed commitment and energy.
What could have happened had the Samoans been competing in meaningful tournaments each and every year? With such experience, anything is possible.
With an upset that wasn’t really an upset and a David and Goliath battle where David was more Goliath than Goliath, this year’s tournament is off to a fantastic start.
