As expected, Waratahs and Wallabies back Kurtley Beale has re-signed with Australian Rugby and the Waratahs until the end of the 2015 season.

The deal will keep him in Australia and available for the Wallabies until the end of the 2015 World Cup.

The 26-year-old has played 49 Test matches, on top of 100 Super Rugby matches for the Waratahs and Rebels.

Beale proved a divisive figure in Australian Rugby in 2014. He was instrumental in helping the Waratahs claim their first Super Rugby title. Playing at inside centre, he combined wonderfully with Bernard Foley and Israel Folau.

Off the field, however, Beale proved controversial. A spat with then ARU team staffer Di Patston on a plane from South Africa to Argentina led to revelations of lewd and abusive messages send from Beale’s phone.

Beale was fined almost $50,000 for his part in the scandal, which rocked Australian and cost then Wallabies coach Ewen McKenzie and Patston their jobs.

He was then recalled the Wallabies squad under new coach Michael Cheika for the 2014 end of year tour.

Beale said he was pleased with the move, and wanted to get back to doing his talking on the field.

“I’m really looking forward to the year ahead and am grateful to the ARU and Waratahs for the opportunity to continue my career here in Australia,” Beale said.

“With the Rugby World Cup coming up, I’m looking forward to getting back out there and playing some good Rugby for the Waratahs and hopefully getting selected for the Wallabies.”

Wallabies coach Michael Cheika was pleased Beale will be available for Wallaby selection for the World Cup, and said he was looking forward to working with him at both national and provincial level.

“Kurtley is a fantastic player who will add to our great talent pool of inside backs,” said Cheika.

“I’m looking forward to getting the best out of him again over the next 12 months.”

Beale was the third back to win the John Eales Medal in 2011, and played in the 2011 Rugby World Cup with the Wallabies.
