The Matildas face their biggest challenge of the Women’s World Cup when they face powerhouse Brazil in the Round of 16 on Monday morning. Join us for live scores and commentary from 2:50am (AEST).

It was another great performance from the Matildas who managed a 1-1 all draw from Sweden ensuring a spot in the knock out stages of the World Cup. Lisa De Vanna continued her form by scoring the opening goal against Sweden, and caused a number of headaches with her speed throughout the game.

Samantha Kerr played arguably her best game in the national team making a number of dangerous runs and working back well in defence to stifle any attacks Sweden had.

Alen Stajcic has the headache of deciding whether co-captain Clare Polkinghorne should play her first World Cup game after Stajcic decided against using her in the group stage.

She would be a welcome return to the defence that has lacked some experience throughout this World Cup.

Australia’s opponents Brazil have been solid this World Cup with three wins through a 2-0 victory over South Korea and 1-0 wins over Spain and Costa Rica. The main strength of this World Cup is that they haven’t conceded a goal.

Luciana has been the top goal keeper so far but the Matildas have plenty of weapons at their disposal to score.

This game will come down to whether the Matildas can ultimately hold their own on the defensive end otherwise they will struggle to keep up with a skilful Brazilian side.

Prediction

I expect the Matildas to come out hard in this one and pinch a goal but Brazil might have too much fire power in this one.

Brazil 2-1
