While it might force you to check your calendar just to be sure it isn’t April 1, News Corporation are reporting that 100-metre sprint champion Usain Bolt is headed to the A-League.

According to reports late on Monday evening, Bolt is set to sign with the Central Coast Mariners to undertake a six-week trial. If the trial is successful, Bolt could link a long-term deal with the Mariners.

Bolt, who won three consecutive gold medals in the 100 metre sprint at the Summer Olympics and still holds the world record in the event, has publicly stated that his post-sprinting dream was to play in the English Premier League for Manchester United. Bolt has also previously suggested he would like to play professional level basketball and cricket, with the Australian Big Bash League spoken of as one of his preferred destination.

This is not the first time Bolt has experienced top-level football. Earlier in 2018 Bolt trained with German Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund.

While he scored an early goal in training, Bolt’s presence was more seen as a cross-promotion by German shoe manufacturer Puma – who sponsor Bolt and Dortmund. This time around, Bolt appears to have set his sights on making the grade.

It remains to be seen whether Bolt’s dreams will translate into reality, but his presence is sure to bring some recognition to the Mariners who finished the past season in last place and are currently enduring significant financial troubles.

The Mariners first match of the 2018-19 season is up against the Brisbane Roar at Suncorp Stadium.

Demonstrating again what a farce the A League is. I’ll stick with the Euro leagues thanks very much.

And yet Bolt had trials at European clubs as well. Would you have not watched the Bundesliga had Dortmund signed him?

        Some people are truly odd

Amazing how articles like this bring out all the people who have never been or ever intend to go to an A-League match. They just hang around hoping to get noticed because they get bored with the monotony of their sport.

So I assume by your comment of sticking with the Euro leagues, you don’t watch the A league? So you didn’t think enough of it before, and nothing has changed your mind? So no lose to the HAL, serious question though, who do you follow, which Euro League and which team(s)?

Johnny Chen probably follows Manchester United by waiting to hear the results on the Ch.7 sports update during he news.
No big loss if he doesn’t convert to the AL

That’s what I am trying to get out of him. Is it RM or Barca in La Liga and Liverpool or Man U in EPL? Just curious really.

Will be interesting to see how he goes in this trial period. I’d be very surprised if he indeed makes it but wishing him all the best.
