It comes after the NRL promised a crackdown on dissent towards the referees this week.
The NRL has today handed down their final determination into the now infamous Bulldogs Mad Monday scandal, electing to suspend half of the $250,000 fine imposed.
The club was bracing for a fine of $250,000 for the fallout of their now infamous Mad Monday celebrations, with several players pictured drunk, naked or passed out on the street following a day of drinking at a public bar in The Rocks.
But, after considering the club’s submission, the NRL decided to suspend half of the sum after noting the club had acknowledged and apologised for the seriousness of the breach, and had “committed to put measures in place to ensure there is no repeat of the behaviour”.
“Under those circumstances, the NRL will suspend half the original fine,” an NRL spokesman said.
“However the suspended part of the fine will be reimposed if there is any material breach of the Code of Conduct during the next two years.
“This incident should act as a reminder to all clubs and club officials that it is imperative to take extra precautions when organising club-sanctioned events,” they added.
Individual fines issued to players embroiled in the scandal were already part-suspended, and The Roar understands there will be no change to those penalties.
