Parramatta co-captain Tim Mannah will remain with the NRL club until the end of the NRL season.
Tim Mannah’s mooted move to the Wests Tigers has been kiboshed after confirmation he will remain with Parramatta until the end of the NRL season.
Mannah appeared set for a shock move to the Tigers last week after losing his spot in the top-17 with the Eels under coach Brad Arthur.
However the Eels on Tuesday confirmed their co-captain would see out his contract with the club, which expires at the end of the year.
“We are delighted that Tim will play out the 2019 season here at the Eels,” Eels chief executive Bernie Gurr said in a statement.
“Tim is in his 11th NRL season with the Eels and continues to be an outstanding contributor to our club.”
The Tigers were expecting to add Mannah when the former NSW State of Origin prop reportedly requested a release from his club last week.
Tigers coach Michael Maguire was open about his desire to add some leadership to his young and experienced forward pack.
However Mannah is now likely to finish his career a one-club man.
“I am very happy to be staying at the Eels. I am a Parramatta Eels junior and I love our club,” Mannah said.
“My total commitment is to helping our club be successful. I appreciate the support from our wonderful members and fans.”
Mannah, 31, is without a contract for next year but has been linked with a move to the Super League.
The Eels went on to hint that this year could be his last in the NRL, saying the 2009 grand finalist would have a post-career role with the club.
“The club will discuss Tim’s future involvement with the club following the completion of his football career,” the Eels said.
