Dolphins captain Jesse Bromwich and centre Brenko Lee have been ruled out of the Magic Round clash with Cronulla on Saturday.

They have both succumbed to hamstring injuries so Poasa Faamausili and JJ Collins are options to replace Bromwich in the pack while rookie centre Valynce Te Whare is set to make his debut for Lee.

Manly have received a massive boost in Magic Round with Tom Trbojevic cleared to return after his groin injury kept him out last week in the loss to the Gold Coast.

While the influential fullback is good to go, older brother Jake Trbojevic (calf) is out but younger sibling Ben Trbojevic (hamstring) returns.

“Tom trained fully on Tuesday evening,” coach Anthony Seibold said on Thursday. “He’s in and he’s a big in.”

Manly five-eighth Josh Schuster is going to need a few weeks to regain his fitness after a thigh problem while centres Brad Parker and Tolu Koula are back early from knee injuries. Front-rower Toff Sipley has copped a ban of three matches for a grade-two crusher tackle on Gold Coast’s Phillip Sami .

Brisbane also have star power returning in the form of Payne Haas with the prop and five-eighth Ezra Mam coming back after serving their one-game hip-drop bans.

John Cartwright stepped in to coach on Thursday after Kevin Walters was struck down by the flu. The assistant took charge of the side’s captain’s run and Walters is no certainty to be at the game. If Cartwright takes control in the coach’s box it will not be unfamiliar territory for the 57-year-old who was mentor of the Gold Coast for eight seasons.

Dragons coach Anthony Griffin has dropped star centre Zac Lomax in a bid to end the team’s four-game losing streak at Magic Round.

The high-priced outside back has been below his best this season and has paid the price for the club’s 2-6 record as Griffin fights to prove he should have his contract extended beyond this year.

Lomax has been left out of the squad altogether after reportedly reacting angrily to the news while hooker Jacob Liddle has been relegated to the reserves.

St George Illawarra take on fellow strugglers Wests Tigers on Sunday in Brisbane and a heavy loss could consign the Dragons to last spot on the ladder.

The Roosters copped a double blow from their win over the Warriors in Auckland with Brandon Smith (neck) and Paul Momirovski (shoulder) suffering injuries. Momirovski is out but Smith, who was taken to hospital via ambulance as a precautionary measure, has been named to play against the Cowboys on Sunday.

Roosters veteran Jared Waerea-Hargreaves sat out the Warriors game due to a back injury but the Kiwi prop will return for Magic Round in Brisbane. 

Titans fullback AJ Brimson (hamstring) is out for at least a few weeks while five-eighth Kieran Foran has been given the green light. Foran required six stitches in his finger, a pain-killing needle in his toe and strapping on his knee to make it through the 26-10 win over his old side but was named in the team list on Tuesday afternoon.

He was still a chance of dropping out of the squad pending the results of scans, but on Wednesday morning, was cleared of serious injury. He needs only to pass a fitness test on Friday to line up against the Eels, another of his former clubs.

Wests Tigers centre Brent Naden was hit with a grade-two shoulder charge for his hit on Penrith second-rower Zac Hosking in his side’s upset 12-8 victory over the Panthers on Saturday night. He will miss three matches after submitting an early guilty plea, rather than risking a fourth if he fought the charge and lost. 

Meanwhile, Cowboys forward Jeremiah Nanai has accepted a four-game ban after submitting an early guilty plea for Grade 3 Dangerous Contact in the heavy loss to the Sharks.

He would have risked a five-match ban if he fought the charge at the judiciary for his controversial hip-drop tackle on Sharks forward Braden Hamlin-Uele, who has been ruled out for a month with medial ligament damage in his left knee.
