The boardroom bloodletting at the Wests Tigers has continued with CEO Shane Richardson spectacularly sacking recruitment boss Scott Fulton just eight months after joining from Manly.
Richardson reportedly called Fulton on Tuesday morning to tell him that his services would no longer be required at Corcord
“It’s disappointing because I had such high hopes for the Wests Tigers and the direction we were heading in with recruitment,” he told the Daily Telegraph.
“But I really enjoyed my time under the previous management and what we were able to achieve in a short period.
“These things happen in rugby league and we’ll move on and look for the next opportunity. I wish the club all the best.”
Fulton was headhunted by the former leadership team, Lee Hagipantelis and Justin Pascoe, last May without the consultation of then-coach Tim Sheens or his eventual successor Benji Marshall.
Almost immediately, rumours began surrounding tension between Fulton and Marshall, with questions around who had the final say on players.
Notably, the recent announcement that Jarome Luai would arrive for 2025 from the Panthers was thought to have been spear-headed by Marshall, and Richardson had backed the new coach to have final say on all transfers.
Fulton’s departure comes after a massive board cleanout in December after a near decade of poor performances, with Hagipantelis and Pascoe among the casualties.
It is understood the Tigers will not announce a replacement for Fulton and instead will craft a recruitment committee with Richardson, Marshall, and interim head of football Matthew Betsey involved.
