Over the weekend, we have witnessed a number of NRL coronavirus breaches.
We’ve seen it from Wayne Bennett, Paul Vaughan, Anthony Seibold, Tevita Pangai Junior, Alfie Langer (reportedly alongside two other colleagues from Brisbane staff) and Starford To’a.
We worked so hard for the season to resume from the desired May 28th date and we can’t risk screwing it up. When I say we, I am talking about the entire Australian population.
We all know Victoria is in a bad way and I just hope things start to improve for them sooner than later.
With a number of breaches, a lot of people are hoping this sends a message to the rest of the competition. Don’t breach the NRL COVID rules – otherwise we could lose the season.
Queensland premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has said she has no problems with letting in NSW teams to face the Queensland teams and Melbourne, who have been based on the Sunshine Coast since things worsened in Victoria.
However, she has openly declared she can make a claim for the season to be scrapped should this keep up. I don’t know if she can succeed with that – but you never know.
NRL head honcho Peter V’landys is downright pissed off and he has every right to be. These rules were made to ensure the players don’t get coronavirus – as well as allow the game to kick off again.
The NRL was the first major league to come back – and such breaches put the entire season in jeopardy.
The game we all love returned and if a player gets it, the whole team will be forced into lockdown and that will most likely end the season.
One thing I love about footy is that no matter what’s going on in the world, the footy just takes my mind off it and whether in the crowd or at home, I can just sit back and watch the game. Will I be able to do so until season’s end?
