LISTEN: 'Money talks!' Laughs all round as Fletch tries to recruit Sharks prop mid-interview
"When can you start speaking to clubs? I've got a mate."
Banned Cronulla Sharks star Bronson Xerri says he is not about to give up on his NRL career, adding he wants to make his family proud again.
In his first interview since his four-year ban for doping, the 20 year-old said he had made a mistake and was paying for his error.
“I’ll tell my story (one day), it’s not what everyone thinks it is,” Xerri told Nine News. “I made a mistake and now I have to pay the consequences.
Xerri, who was suspended last May after testing positive for anabolic steroids, said he struggled to remain positive after the ban and was lonely.
He confirmed he had not heard from the NRL.
“That’s alright but, it is what it is (not being contacted by the NRL) I’ve accepted what’s happened.
“Throughout that period I was very depressed and at home doing nothing,” he said.
“I was just staying home and thinking about everything, it just didn’t seem real to me. I haven’t even watched a game of football yet and I haven’t even touched a football.”
The young centre was one of the brightest stars in the NRL at the time of his indiscretion, scoring 13 tries from 22 matches in his rookie 2019 season.
“I’m only 20 years old, so whatever time I get, I know I’m going to put my best foot forward,” he said.
“I want to make my family proud again.”
