The St Kilda Saints will be looking to turn around their horror recent form against the Hawthorn Hawks under the roof at Marvel Stadium. Follow proceedings with live scores here at The Roar from 4:35pm (AEST).
Things are beginning to look dire at the Saints as last year’s big improver struggle to get going in 2021. Sitting 16th on the ladder with just two wins for the season to date, Brett Ratten’s men have plenty of work ahead of them to get back into finals contention, let alone challenge for a flag.
Ruckman Paddy Ryder’s return from a long absence for family reasons could not have come at a better time. The former Essendon and Port Adelaide big man will be hoping to immediately rekindle the ruck partnership with Rowan Marshall that proved crucial to the Saints’ semi-final run in 2020.
Unlike the Saints, the Hawks have no immediate pressure for success on them, with their own 2-4 start to the season about meeting expectations. However, master coach Alastair Clarkson is a prickly loser at the best of times, and he surely senses a chance for an upset win here.
The Hawks came from the clouds against Adelaide in Tasmania last week, overturning a 32-point deficit to win by three points. Look for young key forward Jacob Koschitzke, the cousin of Saints club great Justin, to sparkle, having kicked five goals in a breakout game against the Crows.
The Saints have won their last two games over the Hawks, including a 14-point victory in Round 16 last year.
