Two of the A-League’s bitterest rivals go head to head at AAMI Park when Melbourne Victory host Adelaide United. Follow along with some Sunday night A-League with live scores here on The Roar from 6:10pm (AEDT).
The Victory have had some famous wins over the Reds in their A-League history. Most notorious of all was their stunning 6-0 demolition in the 2006-07 grand final, with Archie Thompson scoring five goals.
Recent times, though, haven’t been kind to Victory fans, the side enduring a torrid season to sit second-last with only four wins. Coming just four days after a 2-0 loss to Sydney FC mid-week, Steve Kean’s men face an uphill battle to bounce back against another contender.
Two losses in their last three games, and just one win in their last seven games, leaves the Reds perilously placed heading into the finals. They still sit fourth, just a point behind the third-placed Mariners, but have one fewer game than most other sides vying for the top six.
Last week’s 2-1 away defeat to the in-form Perth Glory was a real heartbreaker, with United throwing away a 1-0 lead by conceding two goals in the final 15 minutes to leave without so much as a point. Losing to the Victory wouldn’t just be a defeat to a bitter rival – it would be potentially season-ruining.
