Australia are after quick wickets to stop Sri Lanka. gaining the upper hand in the second Test, when the hosts resume on 2/184 for day three in Galle. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 2.30pm AEST
The Aussies threw away a chance to bat Sri Lanka out of the Test in their first innings, losing five quick wickets on day two around Steve Smith to finish with 364.
Smith’s masterful unbeaten 145 still might be enough, but with Sri Lankan pair Dimuth Karunaratne and Kusal Mendis stymying the bowlers with a 152-run second wicket partnership, the home side are now back in the contest.
The captain was trapped in front my Mitchell Swepson late in the day for 86, but Mendis is unbeaten overnight on 84, with a century there for the taking.
The Aussies have the upper hand: batting second in Galle is often hazardous, and their first-innings tally remains a long way off. But more runs from Mendis, Angelo Mathews and co., and the home fans will start dreaming of a memorable come-from-behind victory, and a squared series.
