Entitled NRL players trying to stand over Kasey Badger are in for a rude shock
The lack of respect shown to Kasey Badger as she refereed Saturday’s Wests Tigers vs Canterbury Bulldogs game is unfortunately nothing new. Nor is…
Even at the tender age of 19, Wests Tigers young gun Mitchell Moses says he does not feel out of place in the NRL.
Moses starred for the Tigers in their 46-18 hammering of Canterbury at ANZ Stadium on Sunday.
It was a performance which showed why the Tigers re-signed him to a four-year deal earlier in the season and he has been the subject of steady hype since coming through the under-20s.
In a man-of-the-match performance, he had five try assists, a hand in another four-pointer, ran for 121 metres, made two line breaks and kicked two goals.
He did all of this playing in the relatively unfamiliar position of fullback and in just his third NRL match.
While he played some junior football at fullback, he is viewed as a long-term No.6.
He showed his playmaking nous by chiming into the backline regularly and did not shy away from demanding the ball from his more experienced teammates.
Moses said he felt at home in first grade and went into the match with few nerves.
“I’ve always been that loud type of player,” Moses said.
“Through the lower grades I’ve been that bossy type of player.
“Those first couple of games, I don’t think I did that. Today, I felt I had to live up to that role.
“(Coach Mick Potter) gave me a job to do, to boss the boys around like that.”
Potter predicted Moses’ talented displays this season are only the tip of the iceberg.
Tigers skipper Robbie Farah said he was not surprised at how well Moses had performed at fullback and he had the demeanour of a senior player.
“I’ve been at the coach for weeks, probably months, to give him a run,” Farah said.
“He’s one of those kids, when you see him at training, you know he’s got it.
“He’s a confident kid. Sometimes you get young kids that get thrown into first grade and they’re scared to talk, scared to over-call.
“But there’s none of that with him, he’s demanding the ball off me and always talking at the back.”
