Statistics reveal South Sydney may have lost their winning edge after Greg Inglis underwent knee surgery on Monday.
Inglis may not be back until the first week of the finals following the operation to have a piece of loose cartilage removed from his leg.
The Rabbitohs will need all the firepower they can muster for their final two matches against Brisbane and the Sydney Roosters, and statistics show they fail to fire as many bullets without their captain.
Since 2012, Michael Maguire’s team has averaged just under a try less per game when Inglis is not in their line up, according to Fox Sports Stats.
With him playing, they average 24.1 points per game, without him, that drops to 19.3.
While they still boast a respectable win rate of 58.8 per cent (from 17 matches) without the Queensland and Australian back, it is well down on their average of 67.1 per cent when he is in the mix.
They face a tough ask to cement a spot in the top four without Inglis, but the playing group is remaining positive.
Five-eighth Luke Keary bristled at the suggestion the side wasn’t a premiership hope without Inglis.
“People are going to say that. He’s one of the best players in the world. But we don’t believe that,” Keary said.
“We’ve got a squad full of blokes that believe in each other, so whoever is filling in, they’ll do the job.”
