Wayne's not done yet: Kodi steals show as Phins avenge Cowboys thrashing with stunning Townsville boilover
Wayne Bennett might be rumoured with a move elsewhere for 2025, but his Dolphins are far from done in 2024 after another stunning boilover…
North Queensland speedster Gideon Gela-Mosby has a further fight on his hands to make his NRL debut as coach Paul Green promises to show loyalty to his premiership team.
The 19-year-old could hardly have done more to impress at the NRL Auckland Nines, crossing for four tries on the weekend while showcasing his pace and skill with several standout moments.
While the Torres Strait product’s efforts earned him rave reviews, Green said he would be left at home for the side’s trip to England for the World Club Challenge against Super League champions Leeds in two weeks.
The Cowboys have managed to retain every member of 17 who defeated Brisbane in last year’s NRL decider, and Green promised to give them the chance to retain their spots in the pre-season.
“I want to reward the guys that took us to the grand final last year,” Green said.
“As long as everyone is fit, I will be giving them first crack.”
Gela-Mosby was one of the highlights for the Cowboys, who were bundled out by Melbourne in the quarter-finals.
After his first taste of first grade, the quietly spoken speedster said he felt at home on the big stage.
“It’s a really big thing for me so it feels pretty good,” he said.
“I’m feeling really good, very comfortable.”
