The NRL is under pressure from the Player Agents Association (PAA) to reveal further details about the 2018 salary cap.
With an increased television deal already confirmed, the NRL is currently in discussions with the Rugby League Players’ Association around the collective bargaining agreement for the year.
However, with a number of key players off-contract at the end of 2017 and clubs looking to cement their roster, the head of PAA, Steve Gillis, said there needs to be a clearer direction now.
“Sooner rather than later the situation may well be unworkable,” Gillis told News Corp Australia.
“It’s a business where you cant just have a stab in the dark and hope for the best.
“The players, who are the stars of the game, are entitled to source their market value and deserve much better.”
Gillis fears the salary cap for 2018 may not be determined until as late as next April, leaving players and clubs in even further limbo.
Club bosses are also expected to front the NRL on Thursday about frustration with third-party deals restrictions and the consistency of the integrity unit.
