South Sydney skipper Greg Inglis is reportedly out for the opening fortnight of the NRL season with knee issues.
Greg Inglis’s knee issues appear to have flared up again amid reports that the South Sydney captain has been ruled out of the opening two rounds of the NRL season.
Less than a week after Inglis was scrapped from the pre-season All Stars fixture, reports emerged that he is set to be out until late March.
Triple M also claimed Inglis is 15 kilograms over his playing weight.
The 32-year-old has a long history of knee trouble, including a torn anterior cruciate ligament injury that ruled him out for all but one game of the 2017 NRL season.
Souths coach Wayne Bennett said last week that the injury wouldn’t require surgery.
Rabbitohs officials declined to comment on the latest speculation over the health of arguably their biggest star.
“Greg Inglis has had a integrated approach back to training this year,” physio Luke Annesley said on the club’s website last week.
“At the moment he’s just got a little bit of fluid in his knee which we’re managing, we’re not concerned about it at all.
“We’ll continue to work hard with him in the gym and then build his running back up in the coming weeks before he’s back out at training with the boys.”
The Rabbitohs’ first trial is against Penrith on February 23, before the annual Charity Shield against St George Illawarra on March 2.
Their NRL season-opener is against fierce rivals the Sydney Roosters on March 15 before they face the Dragons the following week.
