Sheffield Shield wrap: Crowning the award winners for the 2024 Season
The conclusion of the Sheffield Shield season, here's the announcement of the players and teams who have succeeded - and failed - this year.
Cameron White’s first-class career is seemingly over, with the much-respected veteran not offered a contract by Cricket Victoria.
White, Victoria’s longest serving and most successful captain who debuted in 2001, had been keen to extend his career into a 20th season but the 35-year-old’s hopes have been dashed.
“The list management decision-making process has not been an easy one … we’ve had to make a very hard decision on Cameron’s playing tenure,” Cricket Victoria general manager of cricket Shaun Graf said.
“Cameron has been one of the great success stories in recent decades of Victorian cricket.”
States are able to select players from outside their squads during the Sheffield Shield and domestic one-day competitions.
It is unlikely Victoria will go down that path with White, who represented his state in 135 first-class games and 120 one-day matches.
The veteran, who featured in 91 ODIs and four Tests for Australia, is yet to rule out the prospect of playing for another state.
White is also expected to be shown the door by his Big Bash League franchise, Melbourne Renegades.
Victoria will announce its full contract list in coming days.
