Four of 2018’s first-round draft picks will get the chance to make their first appearance as AFL players today when the Adelaide Crows and Port Adelaide Power go head to head in the JLT Series. Join The Roar for live scores from the match, starting from 4:10pm AEDT.

Port Adelaide are set to unveil all three of the first-round selections they took in the 2018 draft: Connor Rozee at pick 5, Zak Butters at pick 12, and Xavier Duursma at pick 18.

Rozee and Duursma in particular have reportedly been extra impressive in the preseason so far, and have the chance to cement Round 1 AFL debuts today.

Butters is a bit of a lighter type and might need a little more development before he plays at AFL level – though he could potentially get gametime as a small forward.

Adelaide took two first round picks last year but only one of them will get to have a crack today, Tasmanian Chayce Jones who they took with pick No.9.

The Crows recruited a number of smaller players who could fill small forward roles for them this offseason, but Jones is going to get the first chance ahead of Ned McHenry, Tyson Stengle and Shane McAdam.

In terms of trade recruits, Port Adelaide will also use this match to give former Brisbane Lions player Sam Mayes a chance to prove himself also.

Perhaps the biggest new face in the mix though will be Ryan Burton, who joined the Power via the trade that sent Chad Wingard to Hawthorn.

Adelaide are missing two of their most central players in Bryce Gibbs and Daniel Talia, and have also left Hugh Greenwood out of the side.

Port are leaving Charlie Dixon, Ollie Wines, Hamish Hartlett and Matthew Broadbent on the pine. That’ll give new co-captain Tom Jonas the chance to skipper the side solo.

Join The Roar for live scores from the match between the Adelaide Crows and the Port Adelaide Power in week one of the JLT Community Series at Memorial Oval in South Australia on Saturday afternoon, starting from 4:10pm AEDT.
