The Sydney Swans will be looking to bounce back from last week’s upset loss when they take on the North Melbourne Kangaroos on Saturday night. Tune into events from Melbourne here on The Roar with live scores from 7:40pm (AEST).
Heading in as one of the hottest teams in the competition, the Swans’ shock loss to St Kilda in Round 21 has all but put paid to them making it to the top four for finals. They’d need to win both games and hope a stack of other results go their way – and that’s before percentage is factored into the equation.
Given that, it comes as no surprise they’ve played it safe with a number of injured stars. Lance Franklin has been rested, while defender Jake Lloyd misses with a knee complaint. The Swans will also be ultra-cautious with star Callum Mills’ troublesome Achilles, after he was a last-minute withdrawal before their loss to the Saints.
The Kangaroos’ loss to Richmond last week typified their season – a strong first half showed their improvement under David Noble, while a blowout after that demonstrated how far they’ve still got to go. Nevertheless, it has been a season full of promise, despite now looking likely wooden spooners.
The Roos have chosen to hand young key forward Charlie Comben his AFL debut: is he the forward partner for the emerging Nick Larkey they have been looking for?
