The Brisbane Lions head to Tasmania to battle the last-placed North Melbourne Kangaroos keen to shore up their place in the top four. Keep across all the actin from Hobart with live scores on The Roar from 4:35pm (AEST).

The Lions’ seven-match winning streak hit a Melbourne-shaped road block before last week’s bye, ending a run which had seen them soar back into premiership calculations after a sluggish start to 2021. They held a comfortable half-time lead in that match, too, before being overrun by the ladder-leaders.

Adding insult to injury, captain Dayne Zorko got himself suspended during the match, meaning he’ll miss this match. In-form midfielder Rhys Mathieson, who was desperately unlucky to be dropped for that Demons match, returns in his place; while Irish youngster James Madden returns for the injured Ryan Lester.

Look for reigning Brownlow Medallist Lachie Neale to make an impact in this one. He was understandably rusty against the Demons in his first game back from a serious ankle injury, but he should be primed and ready to terrorise the Roos.

Thanks to last week’s dramatic finish, also in Hobart, the Kangaroos now have as many draws as they do wins for 2021. They led GWS by 28 points at three-quarter time before being monstered in the final term, and were probably lucky in the end to escape with two premiership points.

While the first three quarters were a sign the Roos are tracking nicely under David Noble, the last was an indicator that they remain vulnerable should an opponent get a run on. Young midfielder Jy Simpkin and veteran Ben Cunnington were fantastic in setting up their commanding lead last week, and they’ll need to be even better for an upset to be on the cards here.

Important defender Luke McDonald returns for just his second match of the year, having suffered a torn pectoral barely 15 minutes into his first; you suspect a first-up job on Lions goalsneak Charlie Cameron might be on the cards.
