The forthcoming Test series against South Africa should be one of the most interesting and enthralling we have seen in this country. In fact, it might even surpass last summer’s controversial Australia-India series.

South Africa brings to Australia possibly one of the strongest line-ups the Proteas have had in this country since being re-admitted to international cricket in 1991.

South African skipper Graeme Smith is a prolific runscorer, and along with Hashim Alma, Jacques Kallis, AB de Villiers, Ashwell Prince and Mark Boucher, forms one of of the strongest batting lineups in world cricket.

The Australian batting squad of Simon Katich, Matthew Hayden, Ricky Ponting, Michael Clarke and Mike Hussey, looks strong and balanced as well.

But it’s the fast bowlers on both sides of the coin that will decide the outcome of the series: for Australia, it’s Lee, Johnson, and Clark; for South Africa it’s Steyn, Ntini, and Morkel.

I think Australia will win the series 2-1 in what is certain to be a very tough contest.
