I met Glenn when he was studying – before he played first class cricket – and he was a nice bloke. It’s a shame it went pear-shaped. You could argue he was unlucky compared to the third and fourth chances that some young players were granted. Still, better to have reached the top, if only briefly.

The brief ODI career of Glenn Trimble

Brilliant!

‘Icon’ Hasler damned with faint praise as Manly axe him 'in best interests of club' to put Seibold in charge

Yep. Clean bowled.

The Wrap: Essendon and Manly debacles an opportune reminder for rugby to focus on its core values

Did you really miss the joke? I didn’t make it difficult to join the dots.

The Wrap: Essendon and Manly debacles an opportune reminder for rugby to focus on its core values

Good luck in getting sports to stick to their knitting because that genie was let out of the bottle with the rugby boycotts of the 70s, Moscow Olympic boycotts in 1980 etc. As much as we might long for a return to the ‘good old days’ I just don’t think it’s going to happen.
One question I have though is what it was like to play sport with a murder victim (ref your para copied below)? I bet he bludged on the wing like no one else….
“Over time, I’ve played or been associated in sport with cattle rustlers, mayors, a convicted murderer, a murder victim….”

That would be a good sledge if it was in response to another comment. But in response to nothing it’s just dumbar$e.

'We don't want it to be a fluke': Daniel Tupou on the Tongan takeover of international rugby league

I’d be surprised they are anyone’s daddies with all that one-handed action. Good players, great team, but still a bunch of w*ankers.

The only team that can stop arrogant Panthers from three-peat is themselves

So this is where the homophobes hang out.

Rugby News: NRL's 'next level weapon' is RA's No.1 target, NZR boss backs Foster (for now), Eddie successor blow

The only photo I want to see of Smirko is him crying on Saturday night.

Why sport and politics will always mix from your local club's AGM to the international arena

Since when were rugby games won and lost in the fullbacks? 😂

'Very appealing': Why Mick O'Connor thinks fresh rugby raid makes sense, and the NRL players union should target

“The only thing that has improved in rugby league is the quantity and variety of substances consumed off the field.”
You clearly know nothing about league, yet volunteer an opinion as if it has some value. Strange.

And if there was no basketball, second-rowers would all be a foot taller.
And if there was no fishing, there’d be more fish.
I have more.

God help all of us who send dick pics and crude texts to girls while our wives look after the kids?

Head and Cummins. Paine’s problem all along!

Head backs Cummins as next Test skipper as cricket world reacts to Paine shock

Thanks Tim
You’ve made a compelling argument against Australia sending any male track and field athletes to the Olympics. Or basketball or soccer teams of either gender etc. Because we haven’t won in the past, we can’t win. And if we can’t win, why bother. How does your argument sound now? Not that flash.

International rugby league a priority right now? Are you joking?

I don’t have the stats but I sense the refs have eased up on the number of six-agains, which is a good thing.

The centre position is dead in modern rugby league

I agree centre has become a generic position which can be filled if needed by a mobile back rower, good defensive five-eighth or the bigger fullbacks. This is a reflection of the way the game has evolved- or devolved, depending on your perspective. In a similar way, the modern hooker doesn’t need to know anything about scrums, except where to stand.

Good article Sam. The situation at the Raiders is a lot more complicated than appears on the surface. On paper the Raiders were premiership contenders this year. But games aren’t won on paper. I’m not sure how the Raiders get out of the hole they are in but I doubt it will happen in the second half of the season.

What on earth is going on at the Raiders?

And thanks for pitying my employer, however misplaced the sentiment. I’m guessing you are a financial advisor or bookmaker. Something where overconfidence is the main selection criterion.

Panthers beware: History shows that the front runners often fall short

But the article wasn’t trying to find the Panthers’ probability of winning the premiership this year. Nor was it trying to assign a common reason for the fact that some hot teams win and other hot teams don’t. All Tim was doing was showing that a team’s hot form early in the year is no guarantee that they will win the grand final – or even make the GF. It was a simple proposition and Tim used stats effectively to support it. End of.

As Tim pointed out, that team also had Mal Meninga, Gary Belcher, Brad Clyde, Steve Walters and Laurie Daley. The rest of the team were no slouches either – David Furner, Noa Nadruku, Jason Croker, Ruben Wiki etc. But Ricky ran the show.

Panthers beware: History shows that the front runners often fall short

You should enlighten us then. I’ve done a fair bit of statistical analysis over the years and I can’t see any fundamental flaws in Tim’s approach.

Panthers beware: History shows that the front runners often fall short

It doesn’t matter how cautious you are if the attacker (a) is shorter than the defender, (b) slips or ducks into the tackle, or (c) plays deliberately for the opportunity to get a the opposition a man down for 10 minutes. We are already seeing 20 second HIA assessments (e.g. Teddy on the weekend) – wouldn’t it be great to see a dozen of those every game. That’s where I fear we are heading.
