Apart from Bob Tidyman who lost his life on the Western Front and Bill Kelly, the native-born NZer who played one test for Australia and 14 games for NZ at league, enlisting in 1916, I have great difficulty recalling any other Australian league folk clambering ashore at Gallipoli 1915. ANZAC DAY to be precise.

'It trumps league': Why don’t the media give rugby union a fair go?

It’s highly probable that the upper crust rugby-playing fish-heads emanating from the well to do schools of independent charitable institutions who provide employment for the honest-to goodness plebs must be quietly rubbing their hands together as they reverse their V8s behind the Sydney Stadium. Can’t trust the gin and tonic brigade as they’re probably very cleverly making a cynical buck or two out of you good unsuspecting honest to goodness fair-dinkum blokes. One can only surmise how hard up we Strains must be in comparison with three-quarters of the world’s starving population.

'It trumps league': Why don’t the media give rugby union a fair go?

Historically league seized its opportunity to promote their game after the Great War. If you look at the 1914 Australian league team only two went away to the War. The rest stayed home earning money playing league. Rugby died after the War particularly in QLD. That is why up until recent times league was never allowed to be played in the Services. The late Bob Fulton was a perfect example of that. He was allowed to play rugby against the All Blacks. Couldn’t play any league.

'It trumps league': Why don’t the media give rugby union a fair go?

Typical GPS old boy who knows better than to play it but is permitted to watch it.

'It trumps league': Why don’t the media give rugby union a fair go?

No! it’s called equity. Those world famous games of VFL and NRL in the world scale of things just don’t rate except in the lunch-box minds of their ink-canvassed followers.. The Sydney Stadium and Brisbane’s Lang Park will be filled to capacity when the English Rugby Team arrives this year. When was the last time a league test ever rose to any great heights in what will ever be a lop-sided game?

Thanks for showing this as it will be more than what the free to air television channels will show. EVER! 😊

England cop fastest-ever Six Nations red card as depleted but defiant defence eventually breaks

And I used to think New Zealanders were supposed to have an intelligence quota higher than the average wombat.

Kiwi Super Rugby team boss admits players ignored cabin crew's mask orders

Forget the sending off as opposed to an ordering off.
For me and for the sake of preventing WW3 that opening statement and the length of the applause by both the players and the crowd over Ukraine will stick in my mind irrespective of a brave and intense game of rugby. Did anyone else view that?

Gone in 82 seconds: Record-breaking red card paves way for Ireland's win over plucky England

For me the big development in Fijian rugby is with the appointment of former Counties and Bay of Plenty representative Vern Cotter to coach the Fijians. People go on about Gregor Townsend and what a great job he is doing with Scotland but it has been on the back of Vern Cotter’s coaching that has made all the difference. I’m predicting Fijian rugby will emerge once again as a force to be reckoned with with Cotter at the helm in this missionary role.

Will Super Rugby Pacific still be super?

Definitely agree with the comments that New Zealand will prevail in the rugby along with Scotland and the Wallabies.

Kiwis unfazed by underdog tag in World Cup final

Can someone provide for me the addresses of all those Covid-free New Zealand supporters who couldn’t afford to purchase a mask?

No mask on their face. A big disgrace. Spreading their germs all over the place.

MATCH REPORT: Springboks edge All Blacks in one of the GREATEST Tests

Quite a feat and well done. Of course Tony Miller although not selected to play for the Wallabies again, after 1967, did play for Australia against Fiji in 1969. A Third XV if you like while the Wallabies were getting pummeled touring in South Africa.Much like the Wallabies won the Bledisloe in 1949 against the All Blacks while their main All Black touring team was playing in South Africa.
Tony miller must have been nigh on 40years of age. And this was in the amateur era where sadly he only lived for another twelve more years after that.

Greg Holmes, 38, becomes Australian rugby's answer to Steven Bradbury, and our oldest ever pro Wallaby

To think they have been here on two occasions in the past year or more, abiding by the rules, in quarantine for goodness how long, not snorting drugs or carrying out mayhem like some local footy teams have done, then they deserve not only respect but a medal.

Pumas captain gets in one last jab at Australia over QLD lockout, photo snub

Good grief ! A great tough gritty exciting game. The ARU should be holding their heads in shame! Why wasn’t this game shown on free to air? You can highlight for all you can how good you may think the game of league is but globally having seen this game league will never rate except in the whole wide world of NSW, Queenzland, Otara and Northern England.
Go you good things the Bunnies!

MATCH REPORT: Springboks edge All Blacks in one of the GREATEST Tests

Serves the Springboks right. They had forward dominance and they have or did have a great backline. Dane Craven must be shaking his head in disbelief at how a team with so much hard won possession just frittered it away with aimless .aerial ping pong

WATCH: The incredible turnover and penalty that secured a famous All Blacks win

The Pumas winning tonight I feel is a distinct possibility. The adoption of Quade Cooper as the miracle worker puts unnecessary pressure upon him. On top of which the service from half-back by White is far too slow and lacks decisiveness. The Argentinian forward pack is quite formidable and in the second half last week once they showed a belief in themselves they were quite competitive and should have scored more points than the scoreboard showed.
I have one question that should be investigated whilst these highly paid sporstmen are up in Townsville and that is what visits to schools did they carry out to promote rugby union?

Analysis: How the Pumas can upset in-form Wallabies

I agree. The Pumas showed a lot more flair and punch in the second half of their game against the All Blacks. Their pack has the ability to counter whatever the Wallabies have on offer. $4.30 is good odds on the Tea And Biscuits. so long as they don’t kick away well won possession.

Clash of cultures: Quade Cooper versus Los Pumas Anonymous, a 'generic Springboks Lite'

A fair summary. Argentina grew in confidence against the All Blacks putting the kicking away of possession to actually using their big pack and their backline. Have an inkling they could surprise the Wallabies.

'We've had two decent games': Wallabies not getting ahead of themselves, says Michael Hooper

Agree. It’s about time we had real lengthy tours with international teams playing against representative states or provinces instead of these internationals where test matches are held just about every second week to the point of absolute boredom. All Blacks are being churned out like a factory belt on short-lived egos. Wouldn’t know one All Black from one week to another let alone yearly.

World Rugby explores option of making RWC a biennial event

These thugs are just scunge. Time to make parents accountable as well.
Thoughts and prayers are with the Kefu family.

UPDATE: Toutai Kefu 'expected to survive' violent machete attack, family members also hospitalised

Agree! the Lions had some of the best backs ever in a lifetime and they chose to kick away possession. The tactics of pressure rugby was ludicrous.

Springboks triumph in third Test, take series over Lions

Nearly half the world’s population play cricket. Does that mean it should be included in the Olympics as well? It’s about as level-headed as saying League or VFl should be included. There are only two real nations who can afford the courts and uniforms for netball and that is NZ and Australia. The rest come after the length of the strait.

'Breaks my heart': Netball's big push towards Brisbane Olympics, with men's comp part of the plan

A great result and from here after the Gold talley starts to dry up a margin or two. Not so many 400m running tracks laid out in the backyards.

Nine down, one to go as McKeon's in striking distance of Australian Olympic history

this sure beats stringing them through the nose!
