The 2013/14 A-League season featured some exciting talent throughout the competition. Let's look at the top 10 performers. 10. Shinji Ono - Western Sydney…
After a glittering 20-year career, you have to ask whether Emile Heskey deserves all the crap he gets. If you watch his latest games…
why does it matter if they just came from Europe, they are a part of the a-league now.
A-league players that could survive in the EPL
I am just saying if he is a squad player for one of the best teams in the mls, then he will probably turn out t be a good starter here
A-League Jets sign Steele
haha, some of your so called ” top quality players are ridicoulous.
Williams, Mooy, Dugandzid,Brockie,Griffiths,Djite,Ferreira,Juric,Antonis, Barbarouses may all start but they are not standouts or match winners. if you remove those names then I might agree with your comment. for example Juric and Antonis have loads of potential. but they are not yet stars
Are Glory days headed for Perth again?
2 seasons at new York red bulls( who have henry and cahill) played 50 games, scored 6 goals. I love the a-league but I admit the mls is stronger and ny red bulls are one of the strongest teams. I am not saying he is marquee quality but he is a certain starter
A-League Jets sign Steele
he’s nothing like zadkovich,he is a winger, look him up before you make a stupid comment
A-League Jets sign Steele
no,he had a cap of 400k in his contract, they said it was roughly around 300k that they got for him
Jets' Brillante to move to Italian Serie A
every club in the a-league has plenty of ” good players”, but to make the top 6 you need 3 or 4 top quality players and a good coach.
The teams last year:
Brisbane: Berisha, Broich,Mckay,Smith,Brattan, Franjic
Wanderers: Spiranovic, Ono, Hersi, Topor-Stanley,
Mariners: Flores, Ibini, and for parts of the season Mcglinchey and Mcbreen
Victory: Troisi, Milligan, Finkler, and for parts of the season Rogic
Sydney: Del Piero, Petkovic and for parts of the season Ognenovski
Adelaide: Galekovic, Carrusca, Isaias,
Jets: Taggart, Jaliens,Brillante ( Heskey was out for most of the season and only played well towards the end)
Perth: Thwaite, Smeltz
Wellington: Hernandez, Riera,
Heart: Engelaar, Kisnorbo
Are Glory days headed for Perth again?
getting star players doesn’t make you a great team,it happens every year
Are Glory days headed for Perth again?
City will struggle,i cant see them performing, they have villa, duff and maybe lampard but the rest of the side is quite weak, remember villa and lampard will only be here for the first 10 games. all city will have then is Duff,Williams,Kisnorbo,Mooy and Murdocca, that is only half a starting lineup, the rest of the team will be the likes of Dugandzic, wielart, Ramsay, Germano and Hoffman. in my eyes, that is defiantly not a top 4 team
Are Glory days headed for Perth again?
Jameison will defiantly start in front of Ferreira or Risdon. although this team sounds great, Kenny Lowe has showed that that he was one of the worst coaches in the league. I know that he came in at a bad part of the season and had to improvise but look at Clayton Zane,he managed to pull it off. He showed no sign of strategy or tactics and all perth did towards the end of the season was kick it long by either Thwaite or Gallas, lose the ball and let the other team score. no matter how good these players are I cant see them gelling quick enough or having enough strategy to be a top-six team. with the likes of Adelaide, brisbane, mariners, victory and wanderers being almost certainties every year only one of Melbourne City, Glory, Jets,Wellington and Sydney will make the 6.
Are Glory days headed for Perth again?
it was actually pretty even, in franjic’s head there isn’t a defference between winrd and defender, he does the same thing, attack
Top 10 players of the 2013/2014 A-League season
great article, very optimistic but very true at the same time. if a couple of young aussie( Halloran , ryan etc) can play out of their skin a move to a big European club seems very likely for Australia’s best young talent
The Socceroos' Group of Hope
I disagree, if you look at some top teams around the world, even their best players are going to ‘greener pastures’. for example, this is constiantly happening to Porto, Athletico Madrid, even Borussia Dortmund. The more players that go overseas the better, the aim for the a-league, and every other league in the world, is to win obviously, but also to make young players better. in modern football, there are thousands of footballers to choose from, so even though I would like to see Del Piero,Ono,Hersietc next year, there will be new players that will light it up.
The A-League needs to hold on to its best players
interesting article, I agree that no player should be getting paid that much money,no matter how good they are. but if clubs are going to waste their money, Bale is one of the best players to do it on
Was Gareth Bale worth the price tag?
Well, the point that I was trying to make is how many epl quality players do we get to see week in week out in australia
