The bean counters would beg to differ. Ultimately, you can say all you like about Test cricket. But if it doesnt sell tickets, sell pay TV subscriptions or attract advertisers then you dont have a professional sport. Just ask Rugby Australia.

Tradition trumps dollars: Australia will never embrace T20 cricket like Tests despite 'poor cousin' raking in big bucks

You know Fauci just came out and said the social distancing thing had no basis in science. Just something to consider.

COVID chaos rocks Aussie camp again as Marsh faces tricky captain assignment after positive test

I’m talking about the guy that never had to come into the office sick. However the Govt wasnt exactly informed on COVID, if thats what youre getting at. Considering the amount of backtracking they had to do in the end.

You must work for the Govt or something

I think its clear by now that good administrators wouldnt touch RA with a stick.

Leaked document says RA out to 'destroy Super Rugby' and 'turn members against each other' as Rebels' pain comes to light

We never had a problem producing top level goalkeepers, its the outfield players are the problem.

What the EPL?!: Ange marches on as the Socceroos make a glorious return to the Premier League

Everything connected with the Rebels is a circus. Whatever my feelings on the matter, this is the season Rebels fans need to show up at the ground if they want a team. Failure to do so will only prove my opinion that nobody cares in Melbourne and the whole excercise has been pointless.

2 words sums it up. Patrick Mahomes

How the Chiefs have conquered their way to the Super Bowl mountain top - yet again!

Sure. But you would think the paragon of virtue that is Johnny Bairstow would be above all that.

Young talent goes to the NRL because they are getting paid more money, not because there are more opportunities. The type of talent that can make a difference at international level will always have opportunities, even with 3 Super franchises. Anyway, a lot of guys on Rugby scholarships at GPS schools are already signed to NRL clubs. Its not the GPS schools responsibility to develop pro players. They got every right to play good players if NRL clubs offer it to them.

Wallabies depth chart: The list that dispels the myth Aussie rugby doesn’t have enough players

Agreed. Australia has depth its just a depth of garbage. I’ve seen these guys play. We dont have 15 guys with a set of skills good enough for intrernational rugby. We dont have 5 squads of guys with a set of skills good enough for Super Rugby. The results bear this out.

What fact? There may or may not be a 400% increase in interest but that doesnt mean football isnt a distant 5th, probably lower, in the American sporting hierachy. Guys like you can go round calling people names, it doesnt change the facts.

'Devastating', 'painful', 'punished': Socceroos OUT of Asian Cup after Miller's moments of madness

MLS is moving slowly in the right direction off the back of Messi and a lot of good work, but government funding isnt what got them there. While the MLS has improved, football is still a niche sport despite decades of US administrators getting a lot right. Football is probably more popular in Australia. Dont forget the NFL and the NBA are not exactly standing still.

I just think NZ has more of an established affinity for the game. To me, it doesnt really matter how big your market is it natters how many Rugby League fans you have. It matters how many paying punters you can get throught the gate or watching on TV and I think NZ has the advantage there. For example, compare the Tigers with the Cowboys. There’s way more people in the western suburbs of Sydney than Townsville but the Cowboys are an unmitigated success and the Tigers are a complete disaster.

NRL coaches poll pushes rival expansion bid over PNG, overhaul of player transfer system and crackdown on agents

I think we would have just lost earlier if we went toe to toe with them. You don’t go toe to toe with a team that has serious quality in their front 3. Especially when you have players that find it difficult to string 3 passes together

'Devastating', 'painful', 'punished': Socceroos OUT of Asian Cup after Miller's moments of madness

Totally agree. A lot of the biggest football fans that comment here are completely delusional. They talk like we got the same squad as Barcelona 2011

LOL! Easy win. We’ve beaten S Korea once in a competitive match in 47 years.

He also shipped 9 scored 3 at a World Cup he struggled to qualify for. And that’s with far better players than we have now. Look what happened when Madison got injured at Spurs. Tumbled down the table. Every coach needs cattle and Arnie was right to recognize what we have and adjust our game accordingly. If it’s good enough for some of the best teams in the world to go set up a deep block, it’s good enough for the Socceroos.

That would suggest to me that Arnie got the tactics spot on against a superior team. It doesn’t change the fact our guys are technically poor for an international team. I mean, we aren’t getting outplayed by Brazil here. Asia is still full of 2nd tier teams.

The Americans haven’t been able to turn people onto football with an endless supply of money, far better administrators, a truly world class team on the women’s side, and 60 million Latinos who already have football baked into their blood. Culture is hard to change and I don’t think Govt funding is the answer to anything let alone changing the nation’s sporting culture.

'Devastating', 'painful', 'punished': Socceroos OUT of Asian Cup after Miller's moments of madness

I think it’s because we have a lot of hand eye sports in Australia. Australians get used to catching. Same thing with the USA. Produce great keepers but not so many outfielders.

Here’s an interesting one. Cumulative squad transfer value.
Japan €318.40m
South Korea €193.00m
Australia €41.00m
England €1.15bn

LOL! I just looked it up. 2015 was our only competitive win against them since 1977.

Bah, humbug!

'Devastating', 'painful', 'punished': Socceroos OUT of Asian Cup after Miller's moments of madness

Its a judgement call. I dont think so, but even if you’re right you still have to put away your chances. We created some good ones but didnt take advantage.
