Well, you’re obviously a Queenslander! You can’t seem to look past the fact that Gallen (love or hate him as a footballer) jumps in the ring and gives as good as good as he gets. No he won’t win a world title and no he won’t win over one eyed Queenslanders, but his gesture to carl Webb is one of humanity and the league community, not he’s not a Queenslander so it’s worthless and a token gesture! This is an ordinary piece of journalism, if you can call it that?

You’re right, moneyball (the book) goes into great detail of the how’s & why’s for the stats and trades. The other thing about the Oakland A’s is this attitude has only gotten them so far, they win matches but are not winning the big games or World Series.
It is a great read and this article is certainly food for thought.

That’s 16 runs to the total which is also 16 balls that could have been scored off or taken wickets! At the very least the game is much tighter, although India did deserve the win.
I didn’t realise it had become endemic, needs to be addressed.

Renshaw……because he made 300 odd in a club match? His first class form is not there at the moment. I’d love to see him have a MHayden season for Qld and score so many runs he is then picked for the Ashes, but at the moment, it’s not there.

Klemmer, as he is still a young front rower and with good coaching, more off loads at the right time will come, it’s something Chief Harrigon and Lazarus became better at.
Fifita has all the skills, but does not have the control (mental), sometimes those freaks of nature that can off load anytime, anywhere, tend to do so, without thinking of where they might be on the field or what situation the team is in. Don’t compare him to Artie please!

It’s a pity Paine’s batting has not been as good as we know it can be, although he is wearing the burden of captaincy also, so him batting 6 is not what we or he needs right now. If he was in better form then batting Marsh at 7 and allowing him freedom to score and bowl plenty would be great. Stoinis seems even better, but for me, I’d throw in Maxwell to bat 6 and play some shots, then roll over a few off-breaks.

Resting key players has some merit. However with the state of the politics of club rugby in Sydney & Brisbane the lack of a REAL second tier national comp that sits below super rugby we will never produce what we once did. Good kids are snapped up by league as there is a genuine pathway to a professional career, rugby offers little in this regard.
