Personally what I think you are seeing in business world wide is the same as is happening in sport. The big leagues are becoming oligarchs. AFL and league are just too big to compete against in this country. You are seeing the same with the EPL and the big three in the states. If we go back to Australia the big two when you add in the income of the club’s have billion dollar turnovers. The AFL are spending close to 50 million on grass roots footy, that’s comparable to the total amount the A-league is making from broadcast rights. I may be cynical but the saying “Money talks, while bullcrap walks” rings true in most aspects of life. With money comes power and you see this in the ability of the big leagues to curry political favour. Unfortunately the result is less diversity in the sports we play. Personally I think it’s tragic but I can’t see how it’s reversible. In truth the big leagues have become” too big to fail”.

Which sports are dying in Australia?

One week in the middle of the year, byes on each side. Pool 1 Vic,SA,WA and indigenous all stars. Pool 2 NSW,Qld,Tas and the territories.Three year rotation, all home and away. Do it ,it would be great and another incentive for juniors to play.

AFL fans have just one reason to be jealous of our NRL cousins

Great more stoppages and watching countless replays debating if a ball flicked a finger nail. Sport is entertainment not a pursuit of absolutes. The what ifs are what it is all about. Surely noone watches sport for the deliberations. Let them play, let the refs referee and let’s all celebrate the uniqueness of human fallibility. And if anyone thinks that the ability of a player to stop the game when needed won’t be exploited then they are mistaken. Just imagine big Sammy ,the last man standing, battered bruised, still resisting but you are breaking him down. One more run at him will see him off. He needs a rest. Do you take him off or do you concoct a stoppage. So many scenarios where a couple of minutes debating the trivial could influence a game. The endurance of the modern player and the ability to rotate has stifled the creative, the hit up Monster is now king. This will only be reinforced with this silly new rule. There is a very big possibility, especially towards the end of a game that it becomes a glorified time out.

Why the captain's challenge will change the game

Or maybe they thought there’d be a rather savage reaction from the public at the time. Things were just a tad different back then

Absence of the anthem at All Stars shows leadership by the NRL

In the 50’s and 60’s indigenous people were part of the fauna. Of course it was wrong. Now if a minority group feels offended how is it wrong to listen to them. Are you saying that when it comes to persecution or offence if it’s a widely held view it’s ok. What nonsense. Maybe if you listened a little you might learn something. That’s what happened to change the 50’s and 60’s I presume

Absence of the anthem at All Stars shows leadership by the NRL

Nowhere is nation mentioned.it implies Australians are new. They are not. Don’t give me ridiculous semantics. That’s your interpretation of the words. In contrast an indigenous man sees this as being overlooked. But in true “Nationalisitic” fashion you want to push artistic interpretation down their throat too. If it needs explaining it is poorly written. It talks about history’s page, well this country, this land has a hell of a lot more history to consider than the moment Europeans landed here. Yet no mention. Honestly don’t you think the original inhabitants of this land deserve some input.

Absence of the anthem at All Stars shows leadership by the NRL

Australians let us all rejoice for we are YOUNG and free. I have no idea why a nation that has 40,000 years of history could possibly feel left out by “our” national anthem. Shame on them for not doing what they are told.

Absence of the anthem at All Stars shows leadership by the NRL

No because they’ve turned our footballers into vanilla cookie cutter “ambassadors”. Get them on their own and the insults run free.

Trash talk has come to AFLW and I couldn't be happier

Exactly. Hopefully next time they take divots out of each other. Personally I think a good rumble is needed just to solidify the intensity. That would be a sight to behold.

Trash talk has come to AFLW and I couldn't be happier

Could not disagree more. The stakes are rising and so is the passion. Love it. The honesty is refreshing. As far as not happening in the men’s game, nonsense. I can remember Peter Caven taking to a Lockett cut out with a baseball bat. What about Sheedy and Kickett. Many examples

Trash talk has come to AFLW and I couldn't be happier

So refreshing to hear an honest opinion. Move away from the perfectly manufactured vanilla professionals and these type of comments are repeated in club rooms right across the nation. It’s footy,it’s hard and the girls are doing the right thing by our magnificent game and playing it that way. Keep it up ladies, personally I think you are great ambassadors for our game

AFLW coach dismisses Harris 'useless' tag

Why do we compare female footballers to men. All and I mean all of our greatest women athletes look substandard when we use this comparison. It’s ridiculous. Other sports like tennis or golf don’t seem to do it but when it comes to football (all codes)it is a constant attack.
The standard of AFLW has improved substantially over the last few seasons and the improvement will continue. These girls aren’t training full time, nor are they career athletes. But as there game becomes more professional and more girls do the 10,000 hours required it will only get better and better. Personally I love it. But I love footy and will stop to watch a game of under 10’s if I see it on my travels. Some of my favourite footy moments have been while I’m standing in the cold at some suburban paddock watching some fat old guys giving it there all. If you only enjoy the professional men running around then so be it. But many of us and I’m talking 100’s of thousands are loving watching the girls go at it in the sport we love. Honestly if we judge our enjoyment by comparison then you are going to be disappointed most of the time. Try to enjoy it for what it is rather than disliking it for what it isn’t.

Why criticise when we should be celebrating women’s achievements?
