I think we’ll all be looking for a 30-30 draw for the non AB games. Plenty of rugby but still a result that helps the ABs!

Thanks.
The little details that come out will be really interesting.
Both organisations leak like sieves so I’ve no doubt that we’ll know everything shortly!

Pacific X-factor, COVID contingencies and the missing link created by Super Rugby Pacific

Hi Brett,
Thanks for covering this.
Have you heard any whispers on the revenue split?
Why the comp structure took so long to get announced and what the impact on the PI recruitment has been?
“Emphasis on derby matches”. Does that mean a 2:1 split?
Overall I’m quite excited for it. Fairly even structure, new teams and plenty of knockout rugby.

It would be some achievement if they didn’t!

CONFIRMED: Key dates and format for 'Super Rugby Pacific' announced with extra 'derbies' flagged

I could appreciate your post until your comment on the 7’s.
Your underlying sexist traits are showing. You should cover that up.

'No belief': Steve Hansen criticises South Africa coach, calls for breakdown rule changes

I totally agree that scrums still need to be part of the game. It’s one of the aspect that keep the ‘game for all shapes’ concept alive. I just don’t like the faffing around before getting it set.
If a team is not fit enough to get to the scrum in 30 seconds and be ready to go then they concede a penalty and ~30m territory. Then a lineout which takes ~20 seconds. Net change in time from the current scrum and reset would be minimal. The reduction in rest time might also slim down some of the piggies. That wouldn’t be a bad thing.

The Thursday rugby two-up: How the law variations have made an impact, and the ones we want to see next

Lol. There is something majestic about the clash of mountains of men deep in each other’s personal space.

The Thursday rugby two-up: How the law variations have made an impact, and the ones we want to see next

I’m all in favour of the time violation for kicks and scrums.
When I watch a game on replay I will skip forward on the scrums and kicks. It generally takes 50 seconds for a scrum and 60-70 for a kick. Limit each of these to 30 seconds. In the case of the scrum the team least ready to go gets penalised.
For reference lineouts only take 20-30 seconds from the kick to get going

'Tough for the relationship': Turinui says Aus-NZ relations worst since 2003, spins Ian Foster theory

Sometimes you do things that don’t make financial sense if they are the right thing to do. From some reports I’ve seen RA used the competition structure (conferences and extra local games) as a bargaining chip to push more of the financial support for the PI teams into NZ.

'Tough for the relationship': Turinui says Aus-NZ relations worst since 2003, spins Ian Foster theory

NZR only serving themselves? From the outside it appears that NZR dragged RA kicking and screaming into allowing the 2 PI teams into super rugby.

Logistics still to be ironed out for the Rugby Championship

Mint. I’m pumped about that. I’ll be able to take the kids along to see their first All Blacks game. Timed nicely to match up with my 6 weeks leave.

FIXTURES REVEALED: Queensland to host four weeks of rugby heaven as TRC locked in

My thoughts on that are that as more teams come in they will slot into the extra games and it’ll be a straight round robin. That’ll make an 8 team final sequence more sensible

RA and NZR agree new Super Rugby format with one major sticking point over 'integrity'

Maybe they are setting the comp length and having those as parking spaces for extra teams on the future?

RA and NZR agree new Super Rugby format with one major sticking point over 'integrity'

I also quite like it. Good round robin so you get to play everyone. There will be enough variety with the draw with changing home and away plus the random extra games that there is a chance for a team to get lucky with the draw and have a good run. That’s balanced with no conferences so it’s reasonably equal.
If I were rugby AU I would stack 2 teams and use the other 2 (the Force keep doing their thing) for development. They can then get on the plus side of the win ledger and pump up some success.
Great for the PI teams. I’m stoked they will finally get a chance and can’t wait for them to start taking some names.

RA and NZR agree new Super Rugby format with one major sticking point over 'integrity'

That’s what I was digging at. If it is not issued as a statement then would you bank on WA not changing.
Lol. Was it a known known or an unknown known?

The Wrap: COVID strain stretches Rugby Championship to breaking point

Thanks Brett.
I’ve seen some reports to the effect of “this is the plan, pending approval by the govt” but not seen any that say “we have approval and this is what we are actually doing”. Was that actually issued and I missed it or was it still not confirmed last Friday?

The Wrap: COVID strain stretches Rugby Championship to breaking point

Seems to be a common sentiment from a few of the regulars in the community on here. Hopefully things change for the better.

Good article mate.
I too am getting a bit sick of the BS that is thrown around on here lately. And the editorial direction of the Roar towards sensationalism and bad click bait.

The Bledisloe bungle: A self-inflicted curse on both our houses

Thanks mate. Disappointing that this has blown up in the media and been inflamed by some media organisations (including the Roar).
It would have been tough to get on the plane without the quarantine details being announced.

The Wrap: COVID strain stretches Rugby Championship to breaking point

Was it ever announced that the AB’s were permitted to travel to WA and what quarantine restrictions they would be under when they got there?
I’ve looked for the media release relating to this and can’t find it. That is an important bit of info that seems to be lacking from the discussion.

Both CEO’s need a lesson in communication. Yes sanzaar is only a shell for the national unions but that should be the mouthpiece for the communication. At least that way there is an appearance of unity and controlled messaging.

There has been a lot of opinion about the relative merits (or lack thereof) of both sides. On the super rugby side of things do we have a timeline for the 2022 comp announcement? If not what’s the sticking point and who is the road block?

The Wrap: COVID strain stretches Rugby Championship to breaking point

One more job for the zoom call.
Agree on the inclusion of Fiji and MP in super rugby. Delaying the approval will begin to have an impact on their recruitment and competitiveness for next year. I’m not sure if that is deliberate from RA to ensure that they are not too strong but it is BS that it is dragging on this long. The inclusion issue should be seperated from the competition format so they can get on with sorting out the teams for next year

The Wrap: Australian rugby, you have two important jobs this week
