“Im sure english players do not practise at Wimbledon all year around and the same as American golfers at Augusta.”………….The 4 tenant clubs do not train at the MCG either. Melbourne (train at Casey Fields), Richmond (Punt Road), Collingwood (The Holden Centre – Olympic Park) and Hawthorn (Waverley) so what’s your point ? Also, the competing clubs in the AFL Grand Final get an equal amount of tickets to provide to their members so your point regarding the “important role” the crowd makes holds no weight. Name an Olympic stadium that had a capacity of 60 – 70,000 in the modern era. They are much larger but again a moot point. The Olympics goes for 2 weeks the AFL Grand Final is a single day event !!!

Grand final at the MCG til 2057 shows limits of AFL's power

Interstater stating that playing the Grand Final at the MCG, where it has been for 100 years, is an injustice is an absurd comment. Not only is there no other stadium, not only in Australia but in the world, that host such a big event for such a large number of both footy fans and the corporates but there is the small matter of the MCG being a central part to the very fabric of Australian Rules Football. The very first game ever was played in basically the same spot (although on a field a mile long). They have been playing Grand Finals at the MCG for a 100 years. I suppose you want the Melbourne Cup to be moved from Flemington as well as it’s not fair for all the other cities ?

The first 2 selections were not much chop but the rest won at the skinny odds, as they should have, so well done.

Behind the Barriers: Five Bets for Wednesday July 11

“The AFL certainly would have liked the flexibility to be able to throw a grand final interstate as a sop within the next decade,”……What a load of steaming you know what. The AFL want the Grand Final played at the MCG and to suggest otherwise is absurd. The MCG is the spiritual home of Australian Rules Football and it is only right that Australia’s largest, most famous and iconic stadium, the MCG, continues to host the biggest and most important game in football, the AFL Grand Final. Maybe you feel the US Masters should be moved from Augusta National and moved around the world to so American players don’t always have a ‘home’ game ? How about the All England Tennis Club move the Wimbledon Final around so as not to advantage British players like Andy Murray ? Heck, why not run the Melbourne Cup at Royal Randwick next year or even better, run it at Royal Ascot so the Europeans can run in it in their own backyard !!

“Too much is made of BC’s unbeaten record. Her races were largely managed to ensure an unbeaten record…..”. Surely you jest…..She won injured, won straight races, around bends, left handed, right handed, in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and on the other side of the world at Ascot. She won Melbourne’s best Grp1 sprint race in the spring twice, Australia’s best 1000m Grp1 race 3 times (incl track record), Australia’s oldest/hardest Grp1 1200m race with top weight (set a weight carrying record for a mare), Sydney’s best Grp1 sprint twice, Brisbane’s best Grp1 1200m race, Adelaide’s premier Grp1 sprint race and the premier Grp1 sprint race at Royal Ascot when injured (the 2nd horse, Moonlight Cloud won 5 Grp1’s and a Grp3 at her next 8 starts). She beat the world’s 2nd highest rated sprinter 6 out of 6 times. She ran in every race she should have ran in. She holds the Australasian record for most Grp1 wins and for all that she remained unbeaten. What was she supposed to do…..go around in the Cup ??
