We get this every year. Talking up Thorn. A few relevant facts. 2018, 12/15; 2019, dropped to 13/15; 2020 sitting 10/15 when the season was abandoned, but Reds had played one more game than every team below them, so really sitting about 12-13/15, as usual.
You can’t compare SuperAU with proper SR. Thorn is a massive failure based on these results.

Time for the Reds to shine in 2021

You are always very keen on sacking people, aren’t you Scott.

Tim Paine's time as captain is done as Australia crumble to humiliation against India

Easy to milk as well by pushing forward on one side and subtly pulling back on the other. This makes it look like the other team is wheeling it.

Is the bajada the way forward for the modern scrum?

Thorn! He had had 3 seasons. 3rd last in 2018, the Reds dropped to 2nd last in 2019 and were coming 5th last when the 2020 season was abandoned but every team below them had played a game less than the Reds, so really still around 3rd last. No improvement, no idea.
Penny is a much, much better coach than the grunter.

Will the Waratahs taste Super Rugby success in 2021?

Thorn’s record:
2018: 13th out of 15;
2019 14th out of 15; (Yeah, third last to second last)
2020: Sitting 10th out of 15 when the tournament was abandoned having played one extra game than every team below them, so not really 10th.
This myth that Thorn has been successful is straight out of the Trump play book. 😂
Penny is a very competent coach, the last thing we want him to do is emulate tbe grunter.

Will the Waratahs taste Super Rugby success in 2021?

The problem is that the engagement is a ‘hit’. It means the pressure is on before the ball goes in. The scrum should engage passively with no pushing at all before the ball is in and this should be stringently enforced. The referee could call ‘crouch, set, come together, push’. No push call until the ball goes in. Many collapses happen before the ball even goes in because the pressure is already on. This destabilises the scrum.

The dangerous scrum behaviour rugby must work harder to outlaw

Ha, ha. The High Court eh? Wow, the Constitution must have been changed to give the HC jurisdiction in employment matters. Missed that. What is the name of your law firm? I want to refer some people in need of help to you as you obviously are right up on the latest developments.? 😂

Pablo Matera must do course to be Pumas captain

No, effective policies and management, eg, Qld, WA.

PM backs NSW government call on SCG Test crowd

Free enterprise? I run a business and employ staff. The Qld gov response has allowed us to operate pretty normally. NSW hospitality currently suffering greatly with further shut downs, eg no nightclubs, severe restrictions on weddings etc, etc. Enjoy your government, the damaged economy and especially wearing those compulsory masks, something we have never had in Queensland.

PM backs NSW government call on SCG Test crowd

NSW are putting the whole country at risk with their soft approach. We have been enjoying a pretty normal lifestyle up here in Queensland for months, thanks to the great work and clear messaging of our government and CHO.
I don’t want my kids back remote schooling and I don’t want my business to suffer any more. And I don’t want to waste the $5,600 I just paid in club fees for my two NPL soccer playing sons. This season was a disjointed disappointment.
And most of all, I don’t want a single preventable death from the virus.

You have no evidence whatsoever that a deal was done. But you come on here as usual, and denigrate and defame the guy using your anonymity as a shield. And we all know you are doing it only because of some perceived disadvantage to NZ because Australia hosted the TN. Grow up.

Marinos appointed as Rugby Australia boss

Umm, Australia is a country of immigrants mate. We welcome people from anywhere, have one of the highest proportion of immigrants of any country and have a free, safe and thriving democracy to support this. I am a proud Australian citizen, immigrant myself.
If you are not an Australian citizen, you have no ultimate right to stay here. So, become a citizen, or expect to be sent back to your place of citizenship if you commit a serious criminal offence. Whether you are a scumbag Kiwi bikie, or the RA CEO. It is applied consistently to all non-citizens.

Marinos appointed as Rugby Australia boss

Kerevi, Rodda and now O’Conner. Many senior players also booted, including Slipper, Hunt, Cooper. Major issue with someone there. Who could it be now?

Can Super Rugby AU bring the wild geese home?

All these senior players aren’t leaving the Reds because they are selfish.

Can Super Rugby AU bring the wild geese home?

Exactly what harm has his decision to go OS caused? He opened up an opportunity for someone else and we now have another player competing for a kick position.
Good luck to the guy and anyone brave enough to risk everything for the sake of their and their families future.
I think there is an obvious reason why so many experienced players want to leave the Reds. Maybe you should lay your blame there.

Can Super Rugby AU bring the wild geese home?

Yes, they are professionals so I don’t blame them.
Nice set of articles. If only.

An open letter to World Rugby: Part 2

Referees must understand that every law must be enforced at professional level. It’s not up to them to decide which laws to enforce, they too are subject to the laws, not above them. Far too much ego on display which is exasperated when referees start calling players by their name and engaging in conversations. Gardner is the worst offender.

An open letter to World Rugby: Part 2

Agree. The Argies had a forward go down for treatment on almost every defensive scrum and lineout. If the player isn’t already down when the set piece is called, then play should continue with a sub, including a front rower if needed. If a player gets subbed a second time through this rule then they are off for good.

An open letter to World Rugby: Part 2

He is a no 8. He has some good skills and is young, however if he can’t win any collisions carrying the ball up, he is not completing a core requirement of his position. I will eat my hat if he is 195cm and 110kg, as his stats suggest. He is even taller on wikipedia, at 6’5”.
He needs to bulk up and get stronger. And learn to win collisions. Great potential, but nowhere near what is needed as yet.

Why Matt Philip is upwardly mobile in the second row

-3%. Did that win it for him?

Why Matt Philip is upwardly mobile in the second row

Geez, Harry Wilson at -3% success rate in collisions. When I posted that he is too small several others said it doesn’t matter. It does matter, and a good big man is still much better than a good smaller man. Wilson is very overrated on the Roar.

Why Matt Philip is upwardly mobile in the second row

Maybe not at 5/8. Three years is a long, long time in rugby. But he will be in the squad.

O’Connor’s vision is what the game needs

Jacko, Chiefs have been my favourite NZ team. Especially when they are winning. Saders are too predictable. They always win. Nice town though.

O’Connor’s vision is what the game needs

Merry Christmas and happy new year Geoff. Castle must have been a brilliant CEO. Your criticism, some of it very personal and aimed at individuals, is targeted only at those who wanted her replaced. No criticism of her management of Australian rugby whatsoever, no mention of the tumbling world ranking, the decline in SR performance and results, the shrinking fan base and the withering grass roots, nor the Pacifica player revolt, the mass exodus of our best players OS, nor any real plan to deal with any of these crushing issues. Not to mention the lack of any broadcast deal and the fundamental threat that provided.
A brief and sarcastic mention of the disaster that was the Folau dismissal and the accompanying financial cost in the millions.
Maybe we can agree on two things, although I know you will refuse to acknowledge the obvious link between then: 1. That Castle is gone, 2. Things are looking a lot better?

The Wrap: All of 2020’s rugby memorables and unmentionables

Yeah, so go to NZ for even less money. You should be a player manager Jacko! 😂
