Interesting, Tim. However I wouldn’t rate AB any higher than Smith or Root in test cricket, with the latter two holding higher averages and arguably in better current form (albeit across less test matches). Also I would rate Root on par if not slightly ahead of Williamson in T20, with a better average and sensational performance in the recent World T20.

International cricket's modern-day fab five

Just pointing out an error in the article, I don’t exactly disagree with your points. Personally I think it will be India 4-0 next time round, but hopefully it will be a well-contested series.

So you're saying there's a chance we can beat India?

India lost that test series 2-0, not 4-0.

I know this is only based on 2015 stats, but in reality Murali Vijay is easily the best opener in Asia. He’s been a consistent performer, a significantly superior batsman to Karunaratne or Iqbal. Even Shikhar Dhawan, who is hanging by the thread in the team, is better than those 2. Hafeez aside, I don’t think any openers from Sri Lanka, Pakistan or Bangladesh would be good enough to make India’s 2nd XI.

How's this for a Test cricket World Cup idea? (Part 2)

I reckon Zampa has to be in the first XI, given that this is being played in India and he is Australia’s #1 spinner in this squad. Not convinced Agar will trouble the opposition batsmen, particularly on the small grounds. If the pitch is really assisting slow bowlers, could consider having all 3 spinners play at the expense of a paceman, given there’s already a few seam bowling all-rounders anyway. But Zampa is a lock-in for game 1 in my view.

Have the Australian selectors at last got it right for the T20 World Cup?

Feel very sorry for Boyce. What more did the lad need to do? I think the selectors have missed a trick by not selecting two specialist spinners, I reckon Boyce & Zampa could bowl in tandem along with Maxwell. Play to the conditions. I’m not convinced Agar will be up to it on those small grounds. Bailey unlucky as well, he knows Indian conditions well and would be useful at the death.
