I think Perth will see some good crowds for India.

As long as we remember that 60,000 seats is a lot in a city of two million. It probably won’t sell out. But it will exceed the capacity of the WACA-that-was.

Can’t wait!

Don’t worry, we’ll let you win one every decade or so

There wasn’t any particular outrage I could observe. My mate sitting next to me said he thought it should be out, then when the umpires decided it wasn’t he just went “oh well, guess it wasn’t “

Defending yourself is allowed, though. So why would ‘out’ be the correct decision?
It’s yet another case where umpire’s discretion exists to judge the facts of the case. I was at the ground and what I saw was a batter stopping the ball with his bat before it hit his legs. Would we even be having this conversation if he ball was about to hit his torso?
The throw was never going to get the wicket, unless Green made way for it. So in that sense, you could actually accuse Stobo of targeting the batsman.. if you wanted to get technical about it.
WA supporter here BTW

Absolutely right. I was at the game and he simply moved his bat to protect his legs. The throw was from short range directly at his legs. It was never going to be out.

Plus, something like that happens so quickly it’s pure instinct. It’s hard to imagine he was doing anything calculated to affect the game.

Who gives a stuff what that clown says? Kyrgios is not relevant to tennis. He’s not some ‘great’ of the game and he’s not a current player.

He can argue all he wants that his idiotic behavior puts bums on seats, but that’s not the only metric of what is good for the game. Tennis doesn’t need the eyeballs of those people. It’s not the sport he would like to make it, and it doesn’t want to be. Does he think that a tournament full of dummy-spitting man-children who don’t respect the game or its traditions would be a good thing? Because actually, a tournament like that would crash and burn.

Nick the Dick should simply fade into obscurity and be forgotten.. but I doubt his ego will allow that.

'We need entertainment': Kyrgios bites back at Cash after legend brands Aus Open crowds 'out of control'

I’ve been attending the odd day of Shield cricket at the WACA recently. It’s an extremely pleasant day out and the lack of crowds is a big plus. The cricket can be very exciting and a very high standard.

Unfortunately I can only go outside of work hours and the WACA is mostly a sandpit due to upgrade works. At least the venue is being retained rather than sold off and will be resurrected as a 10,000 capacity field one of these days

Absent Sheffield Shield Crowds: Quality players, quality cricket, potential future stars of the game...but where is everyone?
