Very well written anindya. I will remain a die hard fan of leander Paes because of his commitment to the nation. he’s performed best when he’s turned up in Indian colours be it the Davis cup or the Olympic games. My personal favourite Paes moments have to be the 1992 Davis cup semi finals at France. (Thanks to good old DD we could watch the match) and off course the bronze medal at Atlanta which we couldn’t watch( thank you so much DD) .
He certainly deserves a better send off.(sorry couldn’t resist)

Reflecting on the career of doubles maestro Leander Paes

Wow you seem to have summed it all. A veritable capsule of the best and the worst.

The good, the bad and the sad: Sporting moments from 2016

Steve Smith needs to come up with a similar masterstroke.

In Melbourne, 80 years ago, when captain Bradman did the unexpected

Thanks Anindya for rekindling old memories. A favourite with quiz masters the 36 Ashe’s series. Questions ranging from Side coming from 0-2 down, lowest position bradman has batted at. Bradmans captaincy was often criticised and his captaincy was on the line if by chance his tactic had misfired.

At the end of the series Gubby Allen has been attributed as saying that the English team was a rotten side.(another quizmaster special)

Anindya thanks for coming out with these gems. I was a huge fan of PADDY and off course Mumbai cricket. Unlucky not to represent India. Another spinner who missed out but has equally impressive credentials is rajinder goel.
Lucky enough to watch Van der bijl play in India in the veteran’s tournament. Well past his prime and played with a a back supporting belt, managed to surprise the batsmen by his pace and swing.

Keep them coming Anindya

Stunning spells from the greatest bowlers never to play for their country

Can there be a better sight in cricket than a fast bowler coming in to bowl. A long run up, flowing hair locks, an exaggerated leap and then delivering the perfect bouncer or the unplayable leg cutter.Followed by a loud appeal with a murderous expression aimed at the batsman on his face.

All this while the entire arena stadium is chanting the bowlers name. The batsmen quakes in fear because the bowler is capable of kicking you or even inciting you to walk off.

For me denis lillee will always remain the creates fast bowler. PERIOD.

Who is the greatest Fast Bowler of all time?

Anindya I recall comparing Daley’s performance v/s the performance of the Indian athletes and realised that he would’ve won 7 individual events at the nationals missing out on the 1500 metres and the 400 metres sprint. I can’t recall the third event.
Brilliantly written as usual.

World’s greatest athlete to be named at Rio - and Usain's not in the running

Heart warming stuff. Goes to prove that Olympics is not just about winning medals.

From Syria to Rio: A young woman has her Olympic victory even before it starts

Being forced to follow on affects a team psychologically, the 1971 India-West Indies series being a perfect example. In the 1st test match India scored 360 odd and bowled West Indies out for 200 odd taking a lead of 160 runs. When Ajit wadekar asked the windies side to follow on ,sobers was flabbergasted. Wadekar had to remind him that as the first days play was washed out a lead of 150 was sufficient to enforce the follow on. The choicest of cuss words followed mostly aimed at the windies batsmen, off course some were directed at wadekar and company too. Though the windies managed a draw they couldn’t recover from the psychological impact and the Indians marched on to a famous and historic win

To follow on or not, that is the question

I firmly believe that a follow on should invariably be imposed. The draw in the India Australia test at Sydney hurts even after 12 years. Fitness levels have improved to such an extent that we’ve done away with the rest day in test matches. In fact denying the bowlers to have another go at the batsmen is sheer madness. The bowlers have settled into a wicket taking mode, the adrenaline is flowing, the batsmen are more intent on keeping their wickets intact.

To follow on or not, that is the question

Ladies tennis is not just about the game. Looks and glamour add to the popularity of players, Gabriella sabatini being a prime example. The problem is that a one on one rivalry with its intensity and up and downs is sorely being missed

Women's tennis is in danger of extinction
