A rare tip of the hat to the BCCI on the decks they have rolled out as well. In the face of Bazball, it would have been easy for them produce the crumbling, rank turners that are a lottery from ball 1 to nullify Englands aggressive batting. Yes, there’s been plenty of early turn, but the bounce has been fairly consistent and good fast bowlers have still taken wickets too. The pitches have been a bit of throw back to the 80’s, where big scores can be made early, and it slowly gets tougher.

India's back level with England - Strap in for one of Test cricket's greatest series

Australia almost always takes an extra spinner on tours to India, primarily in a development capacity, and yeah, im fine with it. You only learn how to bowl in India by going there and working hard. Over the years we’ve picked plenty of young spinners for tours in the hope that what they learn there will pay off in future tours. Many of them dont work out , but clearly the poms have seen something special in him, and good on them for taking a punt on youth. That, or its a reflection on how crap the rest of the spinners are in county cricket.

'How dare you?': India accused of being a 'pathetic disgrace' as England spinner's visa blocked

Or, they saw a young spinner with a good action who might be useful in years to come, and thought what a great way to have a look at him and help him develop. I’m all for encouraging the “whinging poms” narrative, but its a bit harsh to level any blame at them in this instance.

'How dare you?': India accused of being a 'pathetic disgrace' as England spinner's visa blocked

Pretty shameful stuff, for it to happen over and over again is ridiculous. I’d love to see an England boycott, it would be fascinating to see how it plays out. But i think we all know there’s no chance of that happening.

Fair call. 96 in his last shield game showed he is (or was) in decent nick. Shame he hasn’t had a few more games since. Can’t see why he couldnt have had a hit the CA XI game today for a tune up.

'Best six batters in the country': Smith will open and Green returns as Bailey denies Bancroft rift over Sandpaper saga

Plenty of good players avg in the thirties in their first 20 odd tests, get dropped, and come back with a better understanding of how to succeed in test cricket. All the other 3 have been in that situation with an ordinary avg, been dropped, then given another chance but none have taken it or shown much improvement. Its now Greens chance to do it. And If you can’t see that he has a higher ceiling to his game than the others mentioned, you have a very unique way of assessing ability.

'Best six batters in the country': Smith will open and Green returns as Bailey denies Bancroft rift over Sandpaper saga

Nothing but potential ? He has played over 50 FC games, averages more then the others , bowls well and is a gun in the field. He is well past being picked on potential . He has been picked as one the best 6 batters in the country . Bancroft could have been picked and id have had no issue with that, but i’d wager Smith proves to be better at the the top of the order anyway,

I am very curious to see how Fraser-McGurks’ career does progress tho. I honestly can’t really get a read on him. Clearly super talented, and when he made his List A/1st Class debuts, he did look really composed, nothing like the frantic hitter he seems to have become now. Hopefully, he is able to save that for the white ball, and finds a way to do his talent justice against the red ball too. If he even wants that, ofcourse. If he goes purely down the 20/20 path, i guess thats his call, and good luck to him.

Every Australian Test opener option, ranked: Why sending Smith up is a recipe for disaster

No to JFM. Clearly not ready, and test cricket is not the place to get him ready. Also, the Selectors hardly took a risk on Ponting. He already had a couple of seasons of shield cricket under his belt and had made multiple hundreds, showing he already understood how to compile an innings. And if you listen to the late great Rod Marsh, he had been ready since he was 16.

The Liebke Report Card: 'Full credit to Bazball for teaching Warner how to score quickly in Test cricket'

Theres an unfortunate bitterness about this article. Sounds like the author had his “I told you so” article ready to go expecting a failure, and had to change tack. Lets not forget that no one else could manage a 50 against this “easier” attack. Warner saved our bacon yesterday. Lets just enjoy what he can deliver while he’s still playing. Because we certainly wont see a knock like that from any of those lining up to replace him.

COMMENT: David Warner defied his critics - but he didn't prove them wrong

How does a batting order look, 1-12, using each star sign to its optimal strengths ?

It's a scary thought ... but what if Australian selectors are right to play long game with Test team succession plan?

Which he chose to reject

“… wonderful list and I left out a few more like Jo Angel and Damien Fleming.”

How many games did Damien Fleming play for WA ? I only remember him as a VIC.

‘Quite disgusting, childish, condescending’: Johnson blasts Bailey over mental health comment as Warner feud gets nastier

“there appears to be no young gun who CA are willing to bet on”. You just answered your own question as to why Warner gets a farewell tour. CA know there is no one beating the door down, so ATM, its better the devil you know. For the record, As spots open up, I’d order the candidates Renshaw, Bancroft and Puc. Harris is not the answer.

Harris, Renshaw or Bancroft? Choosing Warner’s Test replacement should be opener and shut case for selectors

Unfortunately I feel the ship has sailed for Turner. Turns 31 soon . But if he stays fit and can start bowling a bit more , i ‘d be happy enough with him at 6. No issue with Ellis coming in either. Probably competing for Sutherlands spot in this squad. I’m just hoping there’s still more improvement in Sutherland, and i think he might have slightly higher ceiling than Ellis.

Australia’s 2027 World Cup mission starts now: The players title defence can be built around - only three incumbents to survive

If i had to gamble on picking a squad today, to play in 4 years in SA, this is about the best i can come up with.
Looks a bit short in the batting stocks.
1.Head 2. Short 3,Labu 4.Green 5.Oli Davies 6.Webster 7. Inglis/Philippe 8.Sutherland
9. Jye Richardson 10. Spencer Johnson 11. Zampa . Squad : Morris, Hardy, Aston Agar

I think the issue with this is that people may not necessarily want to be recognised as, or defined as trans. They want to be recognised as the gender they identify as.
I certainly don’t have the answers to the issue. But i do have a tremendous amount of sympathy for the people who have made, what would be in many cases, an incredible difficult transition, as well as sympathy for the women in sport who feel an unfairness about it.

I love a good Mo XI. But im swapping Maxy Walker for Hugh Trumble. Just for team balance. Unless of course Greg “Mo” Matthews qualifies for a start.

CHAMPIONS! Head's heroic ton, bowling brilliance sees Aussies crush India for SIXTH - and best - World Cup win

The ICC cleared it after the event, because, what else could they do? They have been made to look like fools by the BCCI , and they were trying to save face. And its got nothing to do with English Journos. Its about the rest of of the world being fed up with the contempt that the Indian board has for the ICC and every other cricketing nation.

India’s petulant pitch switch dirty trick tarnishes march to World Cup trophy

The issue isn’t that it was played on a used pitch, its that the BCCI interfered with the preparation.
How it played, how many runs were scored and who took the wickets is irrelevant . They asked for specific conditions and got them, which goes against the ICC rules for these events.
