Well put, and to add to this there is also key mining industries in Qld and WA that need to be protected. The economy is buggered but without mining we would be truly knacked.

India isolation leeway key to Gabba keeping Test

As others have mentioned, the pay wall to watch ODI cricket and bizarre scheduling already had a severe impact on likely attendance.
Saved CA massive embarrassment that reflects inept ability to schedule cricket and attract crowds.
Also, is there any relevance or need for this series?

Australia vs New Zealand ODIs to be played behind closed doors due to coronavirus

Skills tests as well – 50m bomb like the 3 point contest
Hangers for the Dunk contest

AFL officially confirms State of Origin match

Building on this Brian, was thinking split to have Qld, NSW, ACT, Vic Metro as team 1 and WA, NT, SA, Vic Country and Tas as Team 2.
More in the the style of east vs west of NBA.
Im sure Gil could come up with some catch marketing term like Coast vs Country

AFL officially confirms State of Origin match

Thats debatable, if Melbourne didnt host the Boxing Day test could easily move away as the pitch has not been well rated in the last few seasons.

Australia and India are clearly the two best Test teams

This could have merit but would have a massive change on the strategy of the game.
Do you have 2 subs named – 1 bat 1 bowler depending on the outcome off the toss?
This is the sort of item that can be trialled in domestic cricket for a period, see how teams apply the strategy, exploit it to their benefit, and then tighten up on the grey area’s before it is released for international test cricket.

Cricket injury replacements are a reasonable concept, until you start thinking about it

Yes I agree with the concerns that players get put back in to a team too early, essentially risked and have a higher likelihood of injury.
Is there an assessment done for an injury incurred during the game as being a pre existing condition, ie if the player has a calf strain in the past 4 weeks, and suffer another strain to the same calf are they deemed to have carried the potential injury into the game.

Don, the fact 2 suspended players fill the #4 and #6 positions on the test batting ranks reflects how this system needs a complete overhaul. Regardless of the optimism some of the cricket fans (myself included) have regarding the potential improvement when they return.

Not to mention other rankings like Shaun Marsh at #44 in tests, and meanwhile Cummins is only a lowly #92 in the same list. His recent form with the Willow deserves much higher than this.

Cummins first Aussie ICC top Test bowler since McGrath

Fair Call but still feel they have copped it to a degree before when Warner took a swing at Root. They will at the very least have a good length warm up before the floodgates open.

Why Australia are still firm Ashes underdogs

I agree John, having the WC first will help with the acclimatization to English conditions, including the crowds and press and present those slightly different conditions.

Also, should Smith and Warner come back into the WC team they will cop it from all angles immediately. By the time the Ashes come round it may still be going on but it would be a bit of old news by then.

Why Australia are still firm Ashes underdogs

Tom, spot on.
If memory serves correct the last Indian tour gave avoided the WACA. This time the Aussie Gabba Fortress was the main threat and avoided.
Wouldnt think that CA would consider preparing pitches that assist our boys to a degree more than a touring team.

Richardson stars on Test debut

100% Birdman
Word is it is immediate surgery and out for the entire season.
Rissole injuries and good news dont belong in the same sentence

Broken leg likely to end Tom Mitchell's 2019 early

Echoing others here, would like to have seen Maxwell for Labuschagne, also have Tremain for Siddle and rested one of Hazelwood or Starc for Richardson

Three changes confirmed in new-look Australian squad to play Sri Lanka

To quote the famous Denis Denuto ‘it the vibe’.
I reckon he will provide something with the ball, and potential counter attack. But hasnt put the runs on the board to get in the XI at this time

VOTE: Pick your Australian XI to play Sri Lanka

First crack at doing this, fairly similar, and thinking on the basis this is a Ashes audition, might as well try some of these blocks now. Not that I want to see it but I do not see massive down sides of a series loss to Sri Lanka if we develop some of the existing talent.

1 – Harris – Did enough to stay
2 – Burns – Performing better in shield this year than Renshaw (yes I saw all comment Renshaw stats)
3 – Khawaja – Poor Indian series but needs to stay
4 – Patterson – Was tossing up with Hughes and the coin fell this way
5 – Head – Liked what he provided and keep him in a bit longer
6 – Maxwell – Give him a sustained run. Would have liked Stoinis here but not enough with the bat recently, where as Maxy averaged 50 last year in shield
7 – Paine – Best gloves until Carey has had a chance to shadow on tours
8 – Cummins – needs to stay
9 – Lyon – needs to stay
10 – Tremain – Reward the last few seasons and give him a chance
11 – Richardson – See if his current form can translate into success

Left out Starc and Hazelwood because you know they will go to England and gives an opportunity for 2 new quicks to prove themselves. Ditto for Bird, we know what he will provide.

Great list, except for Cahill given limited time there
Jackson head and shoulder above all other, she is a house hold name in the USA, as are some others on the list.
To be a house hold name and known to be an international players is something in the USA, many of their fans dont realise when players are from Oz unless it is in their face

The top 10 greatest Aussie players in US Sport history

Absolutely agree, didnt berate or swear at Kohli just quipped back,

Virat Kohli's sledging has lit the fuse on this series

Doug, wasn’t it similar last tour, except they played the GABBA and gave requested (directed) not to play at the WACA

Virat Kohli's sledging has lit the fuse on this series

Thats a pretty long bow to draw

Virat Kohli's sledging has lit the fuse on this series

Very convenient BCCI claim this as baseless without outlining what was said.
At the same time, good on Paine for not buying into bring whats said on the field into the public arena.
Pressure on Kohli and BCCI to perform as #1 against Aussies when they are under strength, under siege and high scrutinized from all aspects

Virat Kohli's sledging has lit the fuse on this series
