From memory, so don’t hold me 100% accountable.
The A team is the team that’s picked predominately without Queensland kids as they play there school rep comps at a different time to the rest of the country, so there is something that can be “aligned for starters”.
Schools & U18 team is made up of school players and age eligible players from the various club comp colts teams.

I don’t think they will to bothered, the South American rugby association (not 100% sure what the real name is) stated a while back that they wanted to keep all the SA teams playing in their own two comps, a version of super rugby & an international version as well.

Regarding your comment about NRL scholarships at private schools, that might be the case for a minority, have a look at the new Dolphin teams younger group, half of the 2022 Barker 1sr XV are up there & I highly doubt they were all NRL scholarship kids.

Eddies brain farts at the press conference were directly linked to his long time media adviser David Pembroke not being around, he’s been erratically erratic!
Pembroke had been coaching him on what to say and not say for over a decade but the seemed to have split after the podcast they were doing together finished.
I don’t think Eddie always stuck to the script but he was aligned on big picture strategy.
If EJ stays he needs to bring Pemby back into the fold, if only to keep EJ on the straight & narrow.

Ireland have shown in the last few weeks that that can play multiple games plans, running rugby like what was on show against Scotland (reminded me of 90’s era Wallabies) & 10 man rugby like when they played the Boks earlier in the RWC.
AB’s well beaten by both Boks & France in the lead up to this game & really only faced T2 teams in the run up – Uruguay, Italy & Namibia are hardly ever going to get past them, not a solid lead up to a quarter final with the worlds #1.
All Blacks team analysts must be working 24/7 to work out what’s coming at them this weekend.

Maybe a version of this could be the new second tier played after all city/regional comps have finished.
Players from said comps should be asked to put hands up at the beginning of their comp to say they will play in the T2 comp, most of the issues with the last NRC was that the Tahs in particular had closed recruiting before it started, so none of the player in the Syd/NSW NRC teams had any chance of making the Tahs.
Fix that issue and then it might work.
