Don provides an insight into the mentality of our selectors. Maxxie isn’t doing his job because he’s not coming in and immediately hitting sixes out of the ground and finishing 50 not out off 20 balls (he’d then be criticized for not scoring hundreds if he did so).

Finch was shocking opening in tests, but there’s no way he should be dropped (from opening) from the limited over sides.

Maxwell has shown in the IPL and BBL that he’s a good captain. That’s another string to his bow that the selectors will dismiss.

He seems reluctant to use wrestling like the storm or rorters do. I put that partly on the NRL who figured out a fine way to put an end to it after the start of 2018 and then let clubs do whatever the hell they wanted after about 10 rounds, but there’s no doubt that Wayne wasn’t as effective in promoting it as Craig ‘Vince McMahon’ Bellamy and others.

Who will emerge the beneficiary of the Seibold-Bennett swap?

Seibold must be the goods if the Rabbits were desperate to re-sign him and went to Wayne as a last resort after they’d given Seibold months to make his decision when it was obvious he was leaving. The Rabbits fans saying they’re glad he’s gone and they got the better of the deal are writing a bit of revisionist history. Put it this way, with the age of their coach and squad and the injury history of several of their key players, the Rabbits have a 1-2 year window to win the comp if blokes who traditionally miss huge chunks of the season like GI and Arey stay fit.

Who will emerge the beneficiary of the Seibold-Bennett swap?

With our selectors it’s either young talents like Renshaw and Pucovski or players like the Marshes, Finch, or Head who are all either proven failures in test cricket, have below average FC records, or both. Our captain hasn’t tonned up in over a decade and was previously dropped from his state side for a long stint. With Starc and Hazlewood going to crap recently (and not even the thought of the axe falling on them crossing the selectors’ minds) we are basically a richer West Indies: we have a, on paper, very good t20 team, an average ODI team, and a very, very bad test side. Hopefully our superior grassroots system (which has been ruined by the way young kids are ‘spotted’) gets us out of West Indies territory within the decade, because after Smith goes we’re going to cop hidings like we just did against India regularly unless players like Pucovski, Renshaw, and Sangha are as good as we hope they are.

Will Pucovski must be a two-year commitment, not a two-Test thought bubble

Mate, we have players who are barely Zimbabwe or Bangladesh standard being picked (Head, Marnus, the Marshes, Paine). If the selectors aren’t going to pick blokes like Maxwell or Wade then I’m fine with them picking young players performing in FC cricket.

Will Pucovski must be a two-year commitment, not a two-Test thought bubble

Imagine if he got the same treatment as the Marsh brothers.

Will Pucovski must be a two-year commitment, not a two-Test thought bubble

How can the selectors ride or die with Marnus on the basis of his bowling when he’s only ever bowled well in the UAE? His FC bowling record is shocking, as is his batting average. He’s the new Mitch Marsh. I wish the higher ups in Australian cricket were actually accountable.

There always has to be one underwhelming player in the Australian side who clearly doesn’t deserve to be there. Those players for this series are Labuschagne in the top 6 and Siddle, if he plays, in the bowlers.

Three changes confirmed in new-look Australian squad to play Sri Lanka

So a 60+ bowling average in FC cricket is good enough to give you the edge these days? What about Patterson’s batting average which is 5 odd runs better than Head’s? Most of the part timers in the Aus side, especially Maxwell who should be there, could do the same job with the ball if not better.

VOTE: Pick your Australian XI to play Sri Lanka

Why should the blokes who failed badly against India be given a saloon passage into the Ashes side against SL?

VOTE: Pick your Australian XI to play Sri Lanka

1. Harris
2. Renshaw (100% must play in England given his FC record, so he needs to be back in the side)
3. Burns
4. Patterson/ Pucovski
5. Maxwell
6. Wade
7. Paine
8. Cummins
9. Tremain
10. Richardson
11. Lyon

Shaun gone for good, papers stamped. Khawaja, Hazlewood, and Starc all dropped after putrid performances as senior members of the team against India with no guarantee of being in the Ashes side. I’d consider giving a swing bowler some test experience in preparation for England, maybe even Copeland given his Shield stats this year.

I gotta give credit to West Australians, they have more state pride than I gave them credit for before Marsh came onto the scene. You blokes are more fanatical than us QLDers come Origin time.

Six talking points from Australia vs India fourth Test

I don’t get the love for Stoinis, hasn’t he averaged like 20 in shield the past few years? A 33 FC average overall is Mitch Marsh-esque.

Geoff was bad, horrible actually, but his career is looked at with rose tinted glasses for whatever reason. His sons, with averages of 34 and 25 but extremely good blokes, are just a chip off the old block.

They have to start scoring runs as well mate, despite them being told not to play county cricket because they’re going to be selected for Australia A and Australia in the UAE and then not being selected. Or them being picked for the ODIs and t20is and missing most of the shield season. Those are just excuses!

This is the logic of the selectors. We can’t tell if the alternatives are ordinary because they aren’t getting a shot.

Six talking points from Australia vs India fourth Test

Head has to start performing or he’ll enter the Marsh territory of blokes getting an undeserved run in the team despite average FC records and horrible Test form. He is averaging 33 in Tests at the moment despite playing on roads at home, if that’s considered good then God help us.

Six talking points from Australia vs India fourth Test

I dno how ex-players with 50+ test averages – especially Hussey who had to actually earn his spot in the side unlike Marsh who was gifted his first run and has often been recalled with no form to justify it – push for him and his brother to keep getting selected. They average 34 and 25 respectively, those are Zimbabwe standard averages, possibly worse.

It’d take quite the punter to put money on him going well over there.

Six talking points from Australia vs India fourth Test

If Shaun goes to England his average will dip below 30 which is probably an accurate reflection of his Test career. He’s been absolutely horrible outside of a few knocks, most of which came against average attacks. An astonishingly bad, mentally weak player who is, for whatever reason, beloved by the higher ups.

“natural style” that sounds like one of the excuses West Australians/ fanboys frequently roll out for MMarsh.

What would Australia XI vs Australia A look like?

Aus A would comfortably win that h2h, although I’d have SOK in over Ahmed.

What would Australia XI vs Australia A look like?

Handscomb and Siddle are mystifying as neither will be playing at the world cup. Handscomb will be replaced by Smith, and Siddle is just a place holder for this series.

Australia make plenty of surprising changes in ODI squad to face India
