Finals can be totally unpredictable. Remember the 2001 Grand Final? It is still Storm’s to lose. If Penrith can get in the grind with Storm, they stand a chance.
Re TPJ, I think the player that the Panthers miss most this year is James Tamou. TPJ is not an adequate replacement.

The silent killer that looks set to claim Penrith's season

My giant gripe – moving off the mark when playing the ball. Or moving to beside the marker. Should be an immediate penalty, not just called back.

Interchange controversy sours defensive performances for the ages: Talking points from the NRL semi

The penalty must always outweigh the advantage gained by the infringement.

The Eels lack of a 1st class Number 9 demonstrated that it is now probably the most important position on the field.

Peter Stirling made a good point about the 6 again rule. 1st tackle – Parra player gets the ball. Penrith player holds him down while their line is organized. Parra gets 6 again. Big deal.

Doubt Munster will take the field. The risk to his knee is too great. Win or lose, Storm will play again – and we want him fit for that one.

NRL Finals Week 1 teams: Huge out for Storm, Saifiti brothers back for Knights

As a Storm supporter, I see two main weaknesses:
– the right side defence. The compact Storm defensive line requires the wingers to read the play and know when to make their move. Vunivalu was excellent in that regard. Not certain his replacement is up to the job.
– a captain to control the nerves when the going gets tough. Nathan Cleary, DCE has this ability. We will miss Smith C.

NRL Round 25 talking points: Resting to be tested and Cecchin gets late respect

Referees make mistakes, the bunker make mistakes, players make mistakes! I don’t get the point of this article apart from let’s look to a mistake-free game. Yeah right!
Having watched RL for nigh on 50 years, I can remember some real howlers, some of which cost teams games. Refereeing mistakes are part of the game. Don’t like ’em, well, don’t participate.
With TV and video cameras littering the field, mistakes will be amplified. Getting decisions scrutinized is how the sport works in 2021.
Personally, I would get rid of commentators who continually complain about the bunker.

Why the focus on Latrell misses the real issue in a failing system

The 900lb gorilla waiting to jump on all sports is the slow death of FTA TV. Streaming is the future, and how to monetize it is the question.
Totally agree that the management and governance of the NRL have been sub-par. The mantra of expansion also must be questioned, when the future will be far less concerned with regionalism due to the reach that streaming will provide. International growth is the only growth worth considering.

Development, expansion and professionalism: Let's be honest about the future of rugby league

Paps on the wing!

NRL's unsavoury execution of Mitchell and officials, how Eels sprung surprise: Talking Points

Shows how much we (Storm) miss Smith C. We don’t have a captain who can calm things down when the pressure is on.
The captain needs to be one of the spine players so that he can direct the position/tactics etc. A front-rower, as good a Jesse Bromwich is, cannot do the job.
Always thought that Smith’s captaincy was underrated.

Storm shocker: Fox injured, three players on report as Eels deny record bid

We Storm supporters were confused as to why Scott was let out of a 3 year contract after only the first year.

Think I know why now.

Give a young man lots of money and free time and you can create a very stupid young man

As said elsewhere, no loss is preferable. Seriously, I think resting a few players from each game is the way to go. Jahrome Hughes, Dale Finucane definitely.
NAS needs a bit of field time.

History awaits the Melbourne Storm this Saturday night

As a Storm supporter, my bias shows. The reason – it all comes down to the forwards. If Storm can put their best 8 forwards on the park, we have an excellent chance.

The premiership is no longer a two-horse race

Do not get the point of these articles. Mistakes will be made by referees, players, the bunker. Interpretations will be, well, interpreted!
Mistake-free game by all participants!!!!

'The rules are ridiculous, with unbearable outcomes': NRL inconsistencies not all the referees' fault

I am convinced that the return to one ref, plus the speed of the current game, result in a lot of forward passes and offside plays going unnoticed. Is it a price we are willing to pay?
Felice Kaufusi and NAS are essential for the Storm forwards to dominate. The forward lineup, when all on the park, are the reason Storm are where they are, on the ladder.

Storm run over the top of Sea Eagles to make it 17 straight

Your comment misses the point, that players from Nigeria, Serbia, etc, grow the audiences in their homelands. That is the only way you will sustainably grow RL internationally.
Waiting for the minnow nations to become competitive, without giving them some aspiration like a World Cup involvement, is just dreaming.

International rugby league a priority right now? Are you joking?

The withdrawal of Australia and New Zealand from the RL World Cup is really shabby. The future of the sport depends upon international growth, now more than ever.
The FTA media streams of gold are not sustainable over the long term. Future dollars will come from an international audience.
Postponing merely kicks the can down the road. Who knows what the situation may be like in 2022?
Not to mention the cost of postponement due to re-booking accommodation, venues, re-scheduling media, etc.
It isn’t going to happen, but I would love the World Cup to proceed without Australia/NZ.

One of Bellamy’s main motivators is leaving Storm, an embedded fixture on the Victorian sporting scene. Right or wrong, he thinks that a faltering team, e.g. the current Broncos, would see the Storm, really struggle for relevance in the crowded Melbourne sporting market.
He will probably ease off on the day-to-day stuff and become more of an overseer of coaching.

Bellamy signs monster extension with Storm, but may yet move away from coaching

An irritating recent introduction to the Channel 9 broadcast is the interview with a sideline player while the game is in progress.
Last night’s Raiders vs Eels game was at a crucial moment when they crossed to an interview with Jack Wighton. Why?

The key reasons why league fans are switching the telly off in 2021

It is important that it proceed. The value that international competitions provide is the spirit that the attendees return home with. I am certain that the players who actually attend will have great memories and help grow the game back in their own countries

I am looking forward to it.

.

International Rugby League's glorious and defiant future without NRL stars starts now

Are TV audiences down compared to 2019? Is streaming included or just FTA and Foxtel? I am interested in the figures.

'The height of chauvinistic selfishness': The World Cup is on, with or without the Kangaroos

The 2021 RL World Cup should definitely go ahead. If the NRL Clubs withhold players, that would be a shame. Even if no Australian-based players attend, it should still go ahead.
International growth is essential for the long-term viability of RL. Players from the various qualifying countries will be excited to attend.
Of course, the dollars won’t be the same, but IRL simply needs to trim its budget to the available ones.
I would still watch, and be interested in the outcome.

Should the Rugby League World Cup go ahead?

The greatest selection change, IMHO, was Qld actually picking professional centres. Capewell played strongly in his back-row position. He is not a centre.
Preventing the Blues from sweeping wide meant it put the pressure back on the middle.

Without Cleary and Luai, are the NSW Blues really that good at all?
