Disagree with the main thrust of this article. Titans would be one of the last teams the NRL would allow to re-locate. If that happens, they might as well run up the white flag and allow the AFL to completely roll over them. No – the NRL can’t and won’t cede that area to AFL, no matter how little success the Titans may be having on the field.
For whatever reasons, the Gold Coast does seem to be a tough gig for professional sporting teams, but that doesn’t mean it can’t happen with persistence and the right people. Holbrook seems a reasonable choice given his record thus far, and the lack of any stand out alternative.

Disagree with the main trust of your article, Brad. The promotion / relegation system provides incentives for clubs to improve and grow – or else another will take its place! Why guarantee a place for a ‘viable’ or ‘traditional’ club if its not performing on the field? That breeds complacency.
I see the ESL as morphing rather than declining. The Wolfpack initiative is bold and exciting, and has paved the way for the Ottawa and NY bids. Who else may follow down the track? If those new franchises enter the ESL, and the Catalans remain competitive, you’ll have a league covering four northern hemisphere countries. Not bad going in just a few years.

I reckon your team is too good for Lockwood to replace anybody….I’d be happy with him as an honorable mention. In the squad, so to speak! I remember him as a very clever and effective forward during his stint with Balmain in the ’70’s.

Did Brian Lockwood’s name come up for consideration matth? A very good English forward who played 16 times for GB and had a some excellent seasons out here.
