I reckon one could make the argument that the Swans have plenty of (potential and up and coming) match winners but were lacking the required role players to take them to the next level.

The Swans have already won the trade period - and it's set them up perfectly for another crack at a flag

That Newman turnover was why, as a Swans supporter, I wasn’t too sad to lose him to the Blues. Georgie Hewett on the other hand…

Finals Fix: How Melbourne killed their season with the butcher job to end all butcher jobs

Just like in 2016 when the Doggies were the fairytale team and the AFL commissioner declared that the Swans would never win a premiership with Buddy Franklin in the side…well, he was right and so are you; it stinks to high heaven!

TOM MORRIS: Inside the AFL's call to overrule MRO on Maynard - and how Tribunal verdict will shape the game

Personally, I don’t see how anyone who whinged about Cripps getting off last year can argue that Maynard doesn’t have a case to answer for his actions.

Finals Fix: Manic Magpies expose Dees' massive flaw - but here's why they should have to win it all without Maynard

I think that was Melbourne supporters saying “Roo” rather than “boo” similar to whenever Paul Roos used to get the ball.
But he did also hit a guy in the head and should, possibly be getting a week off, so maybe it was “Roo” from some and “Boo” from others.

On Marchbank being manhandled: those are never paid on the goal line…should be, but aren’t, so therefore shouldn’t have been last night…all round well adjudicated…I think.

Six Points: The ARC got Petracca 'touched' call spot on, and the Matildas lesson the AFL must learn

Last week the Swans goal kicking was terrible but their field kicking was great. This week, their field kicking was trash, even before it started raining. Gulden and Blakey both turned the ball over multiple times from bad kicking that had nothing really to do with pressure. I thought that the two biggest influences on the game last night were:
1. The weather, which suited Richmond’s game style better, and certainly they played the conditions better, and
2. Nank ironing out Lloyd. I’ve never been keen on a send off rule, and I still don’t think I am, but the Tigers gained a clear and unfair advantage from their captain’s act that probably won them the game.
Well done to the Tigers, truly, but as a Swans supporter, I feel like this is another game this year that we should have won (despite the above mentioned factors).

Footy Fix: How McQualter's masterstroke and a soon-to-be-suspended ruck resurrected Richmond's season

Swans team of 2005 was built the same way.

Essendon have become the AFL's second-chance saloon - and it's paying off big time
